Description:
Education, Skills and Abilities:
*High school diploma or equivalent.
*Must be computer literate.
*Preferred STNA, CNA, or currently enrolled in a STNA or CNA program. *Experience in direct personal care and/or geriatrics.
*Ability to relate well with the elderly and understand the individual dignity of sister/residents and co-workers.
*Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
*Ability to comprehend health care instructions and communicate them accurately to the appropriate member of the Nursing Department.
*Minimum age of 25 Years (Insurance Requirement)
*A valid state driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with applicable state Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the Congregation of St. Joseph policy.
*CPR and First Aid Certification required.
Physical Ability Requirements:
*Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, including handicap equipped vehicles.
*Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to step up and down steps.
*Ability to safely secure residents for transport. Ability to push/pull wheelchairs, geriatric chairs, and other equipment occupied by sisters/residents.
*Ability to hear, understand, and carry out verbal instructions and converse with sisters/residents and co-workers.
*Ability to stoop, twist, bend, reach above shoulder level, and lift up to 60 pounds.
Working Conditions:
*Exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemical and respiratory hazards.
*Exposure to latex, plastic, and/or materials which are used for Personal Protective Equipment.
*This position requires a flexible working schedule.
Requirements:
In light of the CSJ Mission, Charism, Generous Promises and Our Sacred Work, the Medical Transportation Aide is responsible for transporting the sisters/residents to and from medical appointments utilizing Congregational vehicles. Additionally, the Medical Transportation Aide schedules appointments for sisters/residents in order to coordinate efficient transportation.
Essential Functions:
*Provide transportation for sister/residents to and from medical appointments utilizing congregational vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
*Effectively communicates with nursing staff regarding scheduling of appointments and to receive instructions.
*Complete daily vehicle pre and post trip inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
*Assist sisters/residents as needed to complete physical transfers to and from vehicle.
*Assist sisters/residents to and during appointment as needed.
*Keep informed of changes in sisters’/residents’ condition by being attentive to documentation and communication tools mandated by department policies.
*Notifies Director of Nursing or in the absence of the Director of Nursing, supervisor in charge of any changes in conditions i.e. physical, emotional or psychological.
*Accurately reports and documents resident care as dictated by policies of the nursing department.
*Maintain confidentiality regarding any medical appointments and health care information.
