Description:

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, a Jesuit, college-preparatory, co-educational school for grades 9-12 seeks a long-term substitute teacher. Reporting to the Principal, this individual is responsible for teaching sections of Philosophy, Civics, and Physical Education from late November 2018 to early February 2019. QUALIFICATIONS - Strong communication and organizational skills; familiarity with Cristo Rey Jesuit High School mission; ability to respond effectively student needs; knowledge of adolescent development and pedagogical best practices. - Excellent written/verbal communication skills in English (and preferably Spanish) - Experience working with first-generation students preferred. - Bachelor’s degree minimum. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Founded by the Jesuits in 1996, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School?provides?a Catholic, college preparatory education and professional work experience?to?students?from?Spanish-speaking families?across the southwest side of?Chicago who, because of limited financial means,?would otherwise be?unable to afford it.?To make the school?both?affordable and sustainable, Cristo Rey pioneered the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) model for inner-city education that has inspired a national network of 32 schools serving low-income communities across the country.? The CWSP enables all students to earn a majority of their annual tuition by working one?school?day a week in an entry-level position for a corporation?in?the Chicago area.?

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES - teach assigned classes, maintain discipline in a positive learning environment. - design, implement approved curriculum. - develop fair, consistent grading procedures according to school guidelines. - assign meaningful homework; hold students accountable. - develop and promptly grade and return tests, quizzes. - provide assistance for students having difficulties/needing extra time. - serve as an Asesor/a (Homeroom teacher) as needed. - enforce school policies. - assume appropriate responsibility during emergency drills. - turn in grades on time. - communicate with parents regarding student progress; return parent phone calls/emails promptly. - inform counselors when students have difficulties. - attend academic school functions as determined by the Principal. - maintain professional, positive relationships with colleagues. - foster the school’s mission. - respect school equipment. - actively support the spiritual formation mission of the school. - contribute to the school’s co-curricular program by providing service as possible.
