President/Principal Model
Benet's implementation of the president/principal model was to ensure that Benet Academy had the most appropriate leadership structure to best meet its needs at this juncture in the school’s history. The new principal must fully embrace the president/principal model and provide a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities of this model to the entire community.
Key Responsibilities
The Principal will lead the administrative team and provide oversight in the following areas:
1. Faculty/Staff Development and Evaluation: Oversee the professional development and performance evaluation of faculty and staff to maintain high-quality teaching and support services.
2. Curriculum Development: Work with the academic team to develop and improve the curriculum to align with Benet Academy's Catholic and College-Prep mission and provide students with exceptional preparation for living a moral Catholic life and college matriculation.
3. Student Academic Support and Discipline: Ensure that students receive necessary academic and social-emotional support and maintain a safe and disciplined learning environment.
4. Extracurricular Activities: Promote and support extracurricular activities that enrich students' lives beyond the classroom.
5. Schedules and Calendaring: Create and oversee a master schedule and calendar to achieve school priorities and legal requirements.
The Principal will collaborate with the President on various aspects, including:
1. Strategic Vision: Participate in designing and executing programs to achieve Benet Academy's "A New Era of Excellence" strategic vision.
2. Policy and Strategic Plan: Implement and uphold school policies and the strategic plan to drive progress and improvement.
3. Personnel Decisions: Collaborate on personnel decisions, including recruitment, hiring, and retention of top-tier educators and staff.
4. School Climate: Maintain a positive Catholic school climate that encourages growth and learning for all students.
5. Parent Groups: Collaborate with parent groups to enhance the school experience for students and parents alike.
6. Budget Development: Participate in the development and management of the school's budget to ensure financial stability and sustainability.
7. Relationships with Constituents: Cultivate and grow positive relationships with external constituents, including alumni, donors, and the broader community.
Requirements:
• A practicing Catholic committed to furthering the Catholic identity of Benet Academy within the
framework of the Benedictine charism.
• A deep knowledge of Catholic teaching as well as a current understanding of directions and issues in the Catholic Church, including pastoral, social and moral dimensions of church life and the role of Catholic education within the Church.
• A strong commitment to the mission and values of Benet Academy.
• Relevant experience in educational leadership, with a preference for prior principal experience.
• A master's degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field.
• Possession of Illinois principal licensure or eligibility for licensure.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities.
• A thorough understanding of curriculum development and educational best practices.
