RESPONSIBILITIES:

Faith/Spiritual Life of Youth

• Working closely with those in charge of faith formation, developing opportunities for growth in the area of faith formation and spirituality.

• Work with parish leaders to ensure that youth are properly trained and involved in the various liturgical ministries open to them.

• Develop relationships with the parish staff and ministry leaders to ensure a greater participation of the youth in the other ministries of the parish.

• Engage the youth in the social mission of the Church in accord with Catholic social teaching.

• Provide an annual vacation bible school for children.

• Provide an annual retreat for the youth.

• Provide and annual summer mission trip.

• Provide outreach to college students.

• Other duties assigned by the pastor.

Social/Community Life

• Facilitate the development of a spirit of community among the youth themselves, with their families, and with the parish.

• Provide opportunities for youth to gather in non-liturgical or ministry settings in order to explore matter of life that may be pertinent to their current situation.

• Plan for and implement events/outings that will allow the youth to enjoy the company of their peers and grow in relationship with one another.

Administrative

• Plan and maintain a budget for all planned activities/events for the youth.

• Engage in fundraising.

• Recruit and train adult volunteers as needed and ensure they are fully compliant with Virtus and Protecting God’s Children requirements.

• Maintain records as needed.

• Attend parish staff meetings.

• Plan and schedule regular meetings, social events and service opportunities.

Requirements:

• Practicing Catholic, passionate about the Catholic faith and excited to share it and lead teens by example.

• Demonstrate ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish leaders, and volunteers.

• Demonstrate understanding of the mission, goals, and principles of Catholic youth ministry.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of young people with popular ethnic, and family structures.

• Comprehensive vision and understanding of evangelization.

• Ability to form and nurture a community of missionary disciples through encounter, accompaniment and sending forth.

• Mature discipleship evidenced in ability to witness to one’s own faith journey in appropriate ways.

• Developed skills in leadership; strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.

• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

• Familiarity with technology used for communication and presenting.

• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, faithful, joyful witness, persistent, available, fair and balanced, dependable, person of integrity, sensitive to cultural, racial and ethnic diversity, authentic and hope filled.

• Ability to deal with multiple projects, flexible, sound judgement, and comfortable with change.

• Available to work evenings and weekends.

• Open to ongoing formation.

• Bachelor’s Degree required; theological or ministerial focus in education preferred, but others will be taken into consideration.

• Previous experience with parish youth ministry.
