Job Summary

St. Josaphat Parish in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL, is looking for someone who is passionate about, skilled and equipped to evangelize within and outside of the parish, with a focus on welcoming, hospitality and adult faith formation. Will accompany our strong existing Hands of Mercy (outreach) and Family Faith Formation efforts.

The St. Josaphat parishioner community is about 600 families, and there are 350 students from PK3 - 8th Grade in St. Josaphat School. An average of about 400 people attend either the Saturday 5pm, Sunday 8am or Sunday 10am Masses. The church and school employ about 75 people.

Job Title: Director of Pastoral Ministry & Evangelization

Reports To: Pastor

Essential Job Functions

• Collaborate with the Pastor and staff on the Parish Vision: bringing people into closer relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith by sharing the Good News through prayer, evangelization, service, liturgy and the sacraments.

• Focus on expanding Evangelization and Adult Faith Formation:

     • Oversee and coordinate existing Alpha program.

     • Plan and manage new events and programs for Pre-Evangelization  and Post-Alpha.

     • Form a team for radical hospitality, particularly for welcoming new families.

     • Coordinate efforts to engage St. Josaphat School families.

• Responsible for OCIA, Sacramental prep, Family Faith Formation (RE).

• Serve on the Senior Leadership Team, including weekly meetings, in support of the Pastor and staff.

• Collaborate with the Pastor and Director of Finance to develop an annual budget for the pastoral ministries.

• Direct special projects or ministries as requested by Pastor.

Requirements:

Job Requirements

• Experience in a parish that demonstrates ability to engage parishioners and non-parishioners in the process of evangelization and community building.

• Developed skills in leadership and management; strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork with clergy, staff, parish leaders and volunteers.

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, faithful, joyful witness, persistent, available, fair and balanced, dependable, person of integrity, sensitive to cultural, racial and ethnic diversity and openness to the needs of the parishioners.

• Ability to deal with multiple projects, flexible, sound judgment and comfortable with change.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Job Skills and Experience

• Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies, Theology, Faith Formation or equivalent. Three or more years as part of a parish staff.

• Experience in raising up leaders and engaging volunteers.

• Practicing Catholic with understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.

• Familiarity with technology used for communicating and presenting.
