Description:

The Family and Youth Minister will be responsible for the development and implementation of the following programs, in addition to other collaborative efforts with the pastoral staff as needed: Religious Education (Grades 1-7): Is responsible for nurturing a community of learning among children, parents, and teachers that seeks to deepen their relationship with God through prayer, grow in their understanding of discipleship, and join together in service to others. The minister will be a hospitable and welcoming presence who will: recruit, train, and provide ongoing support and formation for catechetical volunteers; encourage parents in their role as formers of faith through regular communication and the sharing of resources and tools; manage and coordinate program logistics (i.e. tracking registrations, managing a budget, monitoring classes, arranging substitutes and other support personnel, etc.); evaluate the vision and goals of the Religious Education program, seeking parent and catechist feedback. Sunday Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Grades K-4): Is responsible for coordinating Kids Word, a developmentally appropriate faith formation program that seeks to introduce children to the stories of the Catholic faith, to help children better understand the Word of God, and to deepen children’s connection to Mass. The minister will: recruit, train, schedule, and provide ongoing support for leaders; create lesson plans or obtain pre-planned lessons for use each Sunday, arranging materials as needed; provide resources for parents to encourage continued conversation at home; evaluate the vision and goals of Kids Word with the leaders bi-annually Walk on Water Youth Program (Grades 8-12): Is responsible for providing the vision and hands-on approach to the outreach of the parish's youth. The minister will: build relationships with and among parish youth and parents; design, develop, and implement youth ministry events and gatherings in the areas of community, faith formation, leadership, and mission and service; evaluate the vision and goals of the youth ministry program by directing regular planning sessions with youth and adult leaders; organize and lead a summer mission trip geared toward 9th-12th graders, including team-building and fundraising efforts; communicate in a timely and effective manner to youth and parents using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, social media, etc.). Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation: Is responsible for preparing students in the Religious Education program and Northside Catholic Academy for the Sacraments through shared experiences and in coordination with their preparation through the RE program and school. The minister will: lead parent meetings and a rehearsal for First Communion in collaboration with the pastor; design, organize, and implement retreat experiences; plan liturgies in collaboration with the pastor and music minister; effectively communicate with parents, catechists, teachers, and students about events and gatherings; build relationship among the RE and NCA families; evaluate the preparation process, seeking insight from families and teachers Family Ministry Program: Is responsible for providing opportunities for family formation, building community among families, and strengthening parents as leaders of faith for and in their families. The minister will: actively listen to the stories, interests, and needs of parish families; plan social gatherings, faith formation activities, and service opportunities for families; seek out ways for families to be involved in parish life; communicate with families through the bulletin, email, website, etc.; seek feedback from families and evaluate the outreach efforts to families on an annual basis.

Requirements:

Degree in theology, religious education or related field and experience in parish catechetical, youth, and/or family ministry.
