Description:
The Director of Music at Queen of Martyrs is a professional who holds credentials in music and who has a thorough understanding of the Roman Catholic liturgy. This person of faith is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of music within the liturgical celebrations of the parish. The ideal candidate should be proficient in piano and organ; and have the ability to direct the adult choir and cantors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Schedule liturgical music for Sunday masses.
2.Recruit and rehearse with Adult Choir.
3.Supervise and assist all cantors in leading song for weekend liturgies.
4.Work with Clergy,Faith Formation Coordinator,Principal, and other staff members to ensure that appropriate music for school liturgies, family masses, and sacramental celebrations is used.
5.Attend monthly staff meetings
6.Ensure that the sound system and instruments are working properly and maintained.
Requirements:
Knowledgeable and comfortable with Church music literature in all forms and styles for the congregation, choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists. Must have thorough understanding of the musical, liturgical,and pastoral judgments which must be made in selecting music of liturgy. Proficiency in at least one performance area(e.g. keyboard, choral,voice). Bachelor's degree preferred.
