The Associate Director-Planned giving manages all aspects of the Planned Giving Bequest program; visits, cultivates, and solicits planned and major gift donors for the Agency. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Develop and manage the systems for an effective response to donor inquiries regarding bequests to the Agency. •Work with Planned Giving Team to create follow-up programs, including the use of appropriate staff, to maintain relationships with all donors who have made a bequest to the Agency. •Maintain predictor systems that will allow for the effective projection of future bequest income. •Keep diligent records of bequests so that updates/reports can be pulled at any time with accuracy. •Coordinate, maintain, and enhance the marketing program for estate solicitation. •Work closely with Finance Department to ensure the efficient processing and projections of all bequest-related matters. •Manage the estate closure phase, including tracking the probate or trust closure process and serving as point person in communication with attorneys, executors, etc. •Coordinate the office work flow with the Administrative Assistant- Planned Giving, monitoring work load, designing and implementing effective work-flow strategies, developing evaluation systems for marketing programs, and assessing revenue targets on a monthly basis. •Stay current with developments in the field of Planned Giving by attending seminars, reading literature, conferring with consultants, etc. •Develop professional resources for consultation, referral, etc. •Visit existing planned giving donors and prospects, both locally and nationally, maintaining approximately a 25% travel schedule. This travel may include occasional weekends. •Form ongoing relationships with donors to facilitate planning recommendations. •Develop and implement solicitation strategies for planned gifts. •Meet or exceed annual revenue and visit targets. •Attend Chicago Council on Planned Giving meetings and develop a network of planned giving professionals. •Assist in the development and redesign of promotional inserts that can be used in the direct mail and thank-you programs.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelors degree required, J.D. preferred. •Three years or more experience in the Development field preferred. •Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. •Excellent phone skills. •Detail oriented. •Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, and monitor the progress of daily/weekly/monthly projects. •Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as ability to become expert in other software programs utilized by the Agency. •Comfortable with numbers and performing simple math and statistical analysis. •Ability to work independently as well as an active team member. •Ability to maintain confidentiality. •Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences. •Willingness to ask questions, learn and be coached. •Comfortable sharing thoughts, ideas, knowledge and opinions. •Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the Agency. •Flexibility to travel (3-4 consecutive days/month). •Flexibility to work a schedule that may occasionally include evenings or weekends. •Regular and predictable attendance. •Willingness to volunteer at Mercy Home Fundraising Events.
