Description:

General Duties and Responsibilities:

1. *Responsible for music for all weekend liturgies. Keeps the music aligned with the Office of Divine Worship. Responsible for all copyrights licenses.

2. *Responsible for music for funerals, Weddings, and or Special Liturgical mass events.

3. *Must be available to minimally provide piano/organ and choral music for the following liturgical celebrations during the year as scheduled: a. New Year’s Day Vigils and associated services b. Thanksgiving Day Vigils and associated ceremonies and services c. Christmas Vigils and associated ceremonies and services d. Easter Vigils and associated ceremonies and services e. Parish Feast Day and associated ceremonies and services f. Musical performances as approved by the Pastor g. School masses, Religious Education masses, RCIA, Confirmation, First Communion and other liturgical events

4. Rehearse weekly (or as otherwise specified) with the choir(s). May conduct additional rehearsals as required to fulfill obligations for musical performances approved by the Pastor.

5. *Develop and direct choirs and provide instrumental accompaniment with choirs for the given liturgical season.

6. Responsible for development and leadership for the adult and children’s choir.

7. *Cooperate with the pastor, priest(s), and/or music/worship/liturgy committee in general planning and leadership of the music program.

8. Assist the Pastor in selecting appropriate hymnals, songbooks and other music resources.

9. As families request, the music minister will be contacted to perform music for Funerals, Quinceneras, Private Masses and Weddings (stipend to be paid directly by family, these hours are not part reported work hours). Coordinate with funeral homes, wedding parties about music selections and fees.

10. *Participate actively in professional formation of music/liturgy/ministry/organization of parishioners.

11. *Attend staff, liturgy and vicariate meetings as scheduled.

12. *Be responsible for assisting in the establishment of policies regarding the use of the church’s entire inventory of music instruments.

13. *Report to the appropriate staff member the condition and needs for the maintenance of the church piano and/or organ as warranted. The church will be responsible for the proper care and repair of instruments as needed.

14. May attend approved music conferences, workshops, institutes and/or other forms of continuing education sessions. Proof of successful completion and /or attendance is required for reimbursements.

15. May be required to provide piano/organ and choral music for additional celebrations as designated by the pastor.

16. Prepares petitions and Announcements for weekend masses.

17. Perform other duties as instructed by the pastor or his designated clergy.

18. Directs and collaborates with multi-cultural and multi-ethnic music devotions.

19. Obtains the services of other musicians, coordinate their performance at liturgical events while keeping the costs align with the Parish budget.

20. Prepare fiscal year budget for the music ministry and monitor expenses to align with budget. Submit necessary invoices and purchases for approval.

21. Oversees procurement and care of liturgical supplies (i.e candles, hosts, vessels, wines and seasonal needs-palms, flowers, decors).

22. Coordinate with Arts and Environment Ministry for church decorations and set-up. Oversees setup and clean up for all liturgies, and all seasonal décor. Opening and locking church doors before or after events.

Requirements:

Education Required: Significant formal training in vocal and instrumental music.

Education Preferred: Bachelor’s or higher in music or related field of study.

Experience Required: Two years as Music Director or five years as musician in parish ministry.

Experience Preferred: Five years as Music Director or 10 years as lead musician in parish ministry.

Skills Required: Proficient in a minimum of two of the following instruments/skills: organ, piano, guitar, voice, conducting, composing/arranging, etc.

Skills Preferred: Proficient knowledge and experience in piano and/or organ and voice.

Other Required: Expected to direct, practice, and lead all parish choir youth and adult groups.
