Description:

The Director of Family Faith Formation assumes primary responsibility for faith formation of children grades 1-6. Developing and implementing approaches to religious education which offers ongoing formation opportunities for both children and their parents, as primary spiritual guides of their children.

We are seeking an individual who demonstrates an understanding of evangelization by developing a community of missionary disciples through encounter, accompaniment and sending forth.

This is a benefits eligible position (26-40 hrs./week negotiable) which will require availability for evening/ weekend work and reports directly to the pastor.

Duties of a Director of Faith Formation include, but are not limited to: RESPONSIBILITIES MINISTERIAL

• Develops and implements curriculum for faith formation for grades 1-6. Develops approaches to religious education that support evangelization by encouraging parents to be primary agents in the spiritual formation of their children.

• Develops and implements programs for sacramental preparation for First Eucharist and First Reconciliation. Collaborates with the Principal of St. Raymond School and second grade teachers to assure continuity in sacramental preparation with school curriculum.

• Organizes and leads meetings with parish and school parents to provide information and support in sacramental formation and preparation for celebration of the sacraments.

• Collaborates with the Director of Youth Ministry to ensure continuity in ministry to families with children of different ages and to encourage participation in youth ministry.

• Collaborates with the Director of Mission Advancement in recruitment, orientation, formation, and discipleship of volunteers working in family faith formation.

• Provides resources and support for Children’s Liturgy of the Word Ministry.

• Assists ministry leads with organization and implementation of Vacation Bible School as needed.

• Collaborates with the Director of Mission Advancement to develop entry points into parish life for families in the religious education.

• Assists with planning and implementation of retreats and service experiences as needed.

• Networks with vicariate and archdiocesan formation personnel and programs as appropriate.

• Attends meetings of parish general staff, pastoral staff and formation staff. Attends parish council meetings as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE

• Collaborates with the Director of Operations to determine budget needs for programs of religious education and family faith formation.

• Collaborates with the Director of Operations to ensure compliance with the guidelines for Protecting God’s Children for those who minister with and to children in accordance with the Archdiocese of Chicago policies.

• Collaborates with the Director of Mission Advancement and Communications Coordinator to communicate available faith formation opportunities to parishioners through multiple forms of media.

• Reports statistics for parish religious education as needed for archdiocesan and parish reporting.

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies, Counseling, Faith Formation or equivalent preferred.

• Previous experience directing parish formation and pastoral accompaniment.

• Proven ability to provide leadership that empowers lay leaders to take primary responsibility for parish ministries.

• Understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values, and ability to apply Catholic ethical principles.

• Comprehensive vision and understanding of evangelization, and ability to form and nurture a community of missionary disciples through encounter, accompaniment and sending forth.

• Team player with strong conflict resolution skills, strong facilitation skills, and ability to conduct open dialogue.

• Ability to direct the work of volunteers to drive key initiatives and programs.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to deal with multiple projects, flexible, sound judgment, and comfortable with change.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word and PowerPoint. Parish Database (PDS) knowledge useful.

• Available to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
