Description:

Sacred music is important within Catholic liturgy. The Director of Music will provide leadership at Two Holy Martyrs Parish - a recently unified parish as part of Renew My Church. The individual will exhibit proficiency in voice quality and in both piano and organ. The Director of Music will develop cantors, instrumentalists and choirs for sacred liturgy, as well as, working closely with St. Symphorosa School. The Director of Music will work directly with Pastor, Associate Pastor, Principal and Parish Staff.

Requirements:

  • Responsible for implementing a sacred music vision for the parish; combining an appreciation of our rich Catholic hymns of old, along with quality contemporary hymns that lift our hearts and minds toward God.
  • Works directly with clergy and staff to plan regular liturgies and special liturgies Serves as leader of musicians, cantors and choirs.
  • Responsible for scheduling all additional parish music coverage/assignments. These include but are not limited to: weddings, funerals, and Quinceaneras. Schedule/direct rehearsals, as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with all choirs, soliciting input but also making sound decisions on behalf of the parish.
  • Engage and invite youth and newcomers to join music ministry.
  • Work to establish budget in areas of music.
  • Attend monthly parish staff meetings.
  • Must be punctual and prepared to lead all parish events in a calm, well-prepared manner.
  • Must display reverence for the Catholic liturgy and when leading the congregation in song.
  • Must display appropriate level of respect/professionalism while acting as Parish Music Director.
  • Must understand and display an appropriate level of attire while in liturgical settings.
  • Must maintain an appropriate/professional level of conduct at all times.
  • Availability to work weekday mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Possesses an understanding of Catholic teaching, mission and values and support them as Music Director.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to lead others, as part of a larger parish vision of sacred music.
  • Exhibits proficiency in piano and organ.
  • Possesses strong vocals, as both playing and singing will be required.
  • Prefer previous experience directing adult choir/youth choir.
  • Possesses appropriate knowledge and ability to implement Church liturgical music; both traditional and contemporary.
  • Maintains an independent ability to plan liturgical celebrations in accordance with Catholic teaching and theology.
  • Possesses an ongoing knowledge of Catholic liturgical norms and the ability to comfortably implement them.
  • Exhibits professional verbal communication skills, while maintaining the ability to communicate effectively through written communication.
  • Must possess organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively in leading all areas of parish sacred music.
  • Must be able to use Computer based software (ie. WORD, email, etc.).
  • Must be able to work in a team/office environment, while also maintaining the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
