Description:

The Church of St. Mary’s Religious Education Program is seeking a full-time experienced Assistant with a Bachelor’s Degree and/or 2-3 years of office or receptionist experience in a Catholic parish setting. The Religious Education Assistant supports and assists the Director of Religious Education (DRE) with the administrative and ministerial tasks connected with running the parish’s Religious Education Program. This position fosters relationships that help build up the parish community, supports families in the formation of their children and extends hospitality in the name of Jesus Christ.

In addition, the Religious Education Assistant ensures that the regular administrative tasks of the RE Program are planned and executed with accuracy and completeness and in compliance with parish policies and procedures. All responsibilities are to be performed in a spirit of Christian service. The position reports to the Director of Religious Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• With a missionary spirit, foster a climate of Christian service, teamwork, and efficiency in the Religious Education, Parish School and Parish Office.

• Serve as a point of contact for Religious Education parents and parishioners, offering hospitality to all, whether in person, in email, or on the phone.

• Handle phone calls and take messages as appropriate, responding professionally and pastorally. Keep DRE informed about needs and situations. Create and maintain phone and email system messages as needed.

• Assist with all aspects of the registration process for Religious Education by working with DRE to update online forms, prepare communications, process returned registrations, and confirm registrations to parents as received.

• Be present for Tuesday Afternoon, Intensives and Sunday classes as needed.

• Occasionally attend and support Sacrament Gatherings and Celebrations.

• Maintain student/family registration information through Parish Data System (PDS).

• Maintain all sacrament information and create certificates and programs when needed.

• Prepare Religious Education class lists and provide to catechists.

• Support and gather materials for catechists as needed.

• Assist with all sacramental retreats and events as needed.

• Coordinate Religious Education Office Volunteers.

• Assist DRE in assuring volunteers are VIRTUS compliant with Archdiocesan requirements and documentation.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree and/or 2-3 years of office or receptionist experience in a Catholic parish setting.

Experience Preferred: Administrative Assistant experience; Church or non-profit administrative experience beneficial.

Skills Required: Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, especially Word, Publisher, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, and navigating various online programs. Excellent verbal, written and multi-tasking skills. Excellent problem-solving skills with emphasis on detail and accuracy and ability to multitask. Familiarity with PDS is helpful.
