Job Title:

Administrative Assistant - Religious Education

Description:

The basic function of the position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the DRE for all aspects of the Religious Education programs and to assist catechists in the preparation for individual classes.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare mailings for catechists and students.

• Distribute letters, lesson plans to catechists.

• Maintain supplies inventory to include ensuring that there are sufficient educational materials for all incoming students.

• Assist with sacramental preparation.

• Answer phones and address general inquiries about the RE programs.

• Provide clerical assistance to catechists on an as needed basis.

• Prepare individual classrooms for class.

• Organize resource materials for use by catechists.

• Process completed registration forms and all RE related payments.

• Gather class schedules and program activities for creation of RE annual calendar.

• Facilitate catechist/student classroom assignments.

• Maintain all family and student files.

• Create flyers, sign-in sheets, seating arrangements, etc. for all programs and meetings.

• Schedule and prioritize current and future projects under the direction of the DRE/CRE.

• Maintain volunteer lists.

• Design and implement bulletin board displays.

• Attend parish events when required/requested.

• Perform duties as a member of Parish Staff and as deemed necessary by the Pastor.

• Work evening and weekend hours as necessary.

Skills Required (Preferred):

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Familiarity and experience with computers, computer programs, and office equipment.

• Ability to work with Parish Data Systems (PDS) to maintain student and family information, track tuition/fee payments, and create reports.

• Ability to compose correspondence and announcements.

• Excellent grammar.

• Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.

• Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively.

• General knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies.

• Active member of a Catholic faith community.

• Ability to represent the parish and the Religious Education program in a professional manner to those who call, write, or visit.

• Office management experience.

Requirements:

Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent.

Education Preferred: College graduate.

Prior experience in a similar position is valued.
