Position Summary

Our Lady of Hope Mission is located in Rosemont, Illinois and is a mission of Mary, Seat of Wisdom Parish located in Park Ridge, Illinois. With its proximity to O’Hare Airport and various hotels and convention centers, it is ideally situated for its mission of evangelization and faith formation of visitors, area workers as well as the local residents.

The Mission Director works closely with the pastor and leadership of Mary, Seat of Wisdom. The primary responsibility is to provide the community served with a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church. The Mission Director oversees spiritual leadership, pastoral care and general operations of the Mission and its community.

Responsibilities include ministries, programs and liturgical celebrations to accomplish the goals of the Archdiocese of Chicago initiative, Renew My Church: to make disciples, to build community and to inspire witness. Mission Director is a qualified priest, deacon or lay person entrusted with pastoral leadership where there is no resident priest pursuant to Canon 517§2 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law.

General Responsibilities

• To be the visible leader of the Mission and a senior leadership member of Mary, Seat of Wisdom parish.

• Collaborate with Mary, Seat of Wisdom pastor and leadership team to discern the vision that best enables Mission to offer ways for people to encounter Jesus, be formed as disciples and practice missionary discipleship.

• Coordinate with leadership team of Mary, Seat of Wisdom, Episcopal Vicar and other assisting priests to foster a spirit of welcome and hospitality in the community and provide pastoral care.

• Develop and implement initiatives to spiritually feed the local workers and short-/long-term visitors with an eye toward those most in need.

Ministry of Worship

• Organize opportunities for both communal and personal prayer.

• Schedule and/or arrange Mission’s Sacramental life in accordance with provisions of Church Law and Archdiocese of Chicago norms. This may include coordinating Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing, Funeral Services.

• Oversee all aspects of Liturgical Planning such as recruitment, scheduling and coordination of leaders including but not limited to: Music Ministers, Lectors, Cantors, Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. (Note that Priests or Deacons who serve as Mission Director may perform any liturgical roles appropriate to their office.)

Ministry of Evangelization and Faith Formation

• Oversee catechesis and spiritual development of Mission community including programs and training specifically targeted to children, youth and adults of all ages.

• Schedule events and speakers specific to the life of the Mission.

Ministry of Human Dignity, Solidarity and Pastoral Care

• Foster sense of community within the Mission in which both new and established members, visitors and area workers feel welcome.

• Direct ministries focused on human dignity and solidarity.

Ministry of Administration

• Lead the Mission Sub-Committee of Mary, Seat of Wisdom Parish Pastoral Council.

• Ensure proper recording and maintenance of Mission Sacramental and death registers, archives and records related to Mass offerings and intentions.

• Supervise and work closely with staff concerning finance, facilities, human resources and project management activities.

• Provide input and review to Mission budget and forecasts.

• Provide input and participate in Finance Council.

• Foster existing relationship with the Village of Rosemont, local businesses and local Chamber of Commerce.


• Must exhibit strong personal relationship with Jesus and a deep love for His Church.

• Must be in communion with the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043) and refraining from any conduct in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.

• Knowledge and understanding of the New Evangelization, including methodology and best practices of intentional leadership.

• Familiarity with Divine Renovation (Fr. James Mallon), Forming Intentional Disciples (Sherry Weddell) and Alpha preferred.

• Possess working knowledge of evangelization documents (e.g., Evangelii Nuntiandi, Evangelii Gaudium).

• Mature discipleship as evidenced by ability to witness one’s own faith journey.

• Demonstrated ability to engage individuals in process of evangelization and community building.

• BA or equivalent experience.

• Minimum of 5 years’ parish experience.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

• Excellent organizational and time management competencies.

• Strong verbal and written communications, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to direct work of other staff and volunteers to drive key initiatives.

• Ability to work in team environment and has a “Service Mindset” when working with others.

• Able to identify issues and propose recommendations/solutions.
