Description:

Basic Functions:

  • Assures the optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, fire/life safety, etc.
  • Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of snow and trash.
  • Makes minor repairs to buildings and equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
  • Performs maintenance service and small repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, plastering, or electrical.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job.
  • Clean weekly and as needed the churches and all rooms used for religious education, the parish social services and any meetings, and the school.
  • Perform general labor and tasks such as sweeping, trash removal, and cleaning with strong attention to detail. This includes areas that may need to be cleaned daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Dust, empty wastebaskets, wash walls, windows, doors, replenishes toiletry supplies, sets up for activities.
  • Mops, strips, waxes floors, vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas, using equipment such as mops, vacuum, buffer, and shampooer as needed.
  • Responsible for cleaning, polishing, painting, maintaining light fixtures, trim, surfaces, rooms, hallways, restrooms, stairways, floors, etc.
  • Install and remove air conditioning window units, replace batteries for smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and light bulbs as necessary.
  • Primarily responsible for performing on-site routine services including installation, maintenance, and repair aided by staff or volunteers when available.
  • Assures the optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, fire/life safety, etc by performing preventative inspections looking for potential problems and notifies supervisor(s).
  • Consult Pastor and/or Operations Director on the purchasing of items in advance required for upgrades to upkeep grounds.
  • Ensure parish machinery is well maintained and that maintenance procedures are followed. Assists in the preparation of a maintenance budget to be submitted to the Finance Council, including regular supplies, renewable contracts, necessary repairs, preventative maintenance, and salaries.
  • Help on larger projects and cover for the housekeeper when that person is on vacation or as needed. The housekeeper generally cleans the offices and living quarters in the rectory.
  • Perform snow removal during the winter season and seasonal required landscaping of grounds.
  • May be given various other assignments and projects consistent with the responsibility level and general duties of position.

Requirements:

Education Required:  High school graduate, GED or equivalent

Education Preferred: College education

Experience Required: Three years of experience in maintenance or a related area.

Experience Preferred: Five years of experience in maintenance or a related area, Building Operator Certification, college degree.

Skills Required: Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures of facilities and grounds maintenance. Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, or electrical.

Other Required: Valid Driver’s license. Lift, push/pull 50lbs. Climb ladders and stairs as necessary. Availability to work overtime as needed.
