Director of Religious Education/Evangelization (DRE/E)

Description:

DRE Programs and Evangelization Primarily responsible for executing St. Michael’s religious education programs in accordance with the Parish mission statement and goals. Ensures the program is in compliance with Archdiocese of Chicago requisites. Collaborating with the Pastor, parish staff, parishioner groups, vicariate staff, the Archdiocese staff, develops, aligns and implements a parish wide evangelization program to include: strategies and goals; collaboration with other parishes, the vicariate, and the Archdiocese offices.

• Evaluates effectiveness of staff and programs

• Working with the pastor, establishes short and long range plans for the program • Recruits volunteers for programs

• Oversees volunteer training and participation

• Working with the business manager, assist in the preparation of the budget and financial matters of the program

• Working with the Communications Manager, publicizes the programs and events

• Working with the Liturgical Director, to create liturgies focused for children and young adults. T

his includes managing the Children of the Liturgy and other young adult liturgies.

• Working with the pastor and the staff, ensures the Baptism program meets the requirements, conducts the education process for new parents, and ensures the family is ready for the sacrament of Baptism.

• Acquires, organizes and provides resources (media, supplies, books, etc.)

• Develops programs in accordance with the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education guidelines/directives

• Working with the leadership and various groups in the parish, implement best practices for evangelization and missionary discipleship. Helps develop and track progress in the program.

• Working with the Parish Office staff, provides the data required to maintain the sacramental records for the parish files

• Manages the parish’s Protecting God’s Children Program

• Performs additional services as requested by the pastor PTB (30-32 hours/week) Depending on the program’s successes, this position may become full-time.

Requirements:

Qualifications

• Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to his/her own faith life • Well-developed knowledge of Scripture, the Catechism and Church documents

• Familiar with Church history

• Experienced in teaching the faith to adults, youth and children

• Able to communicate with all age groups from varying cultural and social backgrounds

• Skilled organizer and overseer of catechetical programs that incorporate volunteer contributions

• Sensitive to controversial issues and able to respond according to Church teaching as articulated by the leadership of the church Education Background

• An graduate degree – in theology, pastoral studies, divinity or religious education preferred or applicable experience

• Certification from an approved program or enrolled in an approved certification

• Completed the VIRTUS facilitators’ course preferred. Requirements

• Successfully completed a background check

• Complete VIRTUS training and mandated reporters training

• Attendance at diocesan workshops and seminars for ongoing education

• Experience in using technology to include Microsoft Office Products

• Management of programs and volunteers – a plus

• Excellent communication skills
