The Director of Lifelong Formation directs the parish efforts to equip all parishioners to encounter Jesus Christ through a lifelong process that engages and encourages them to grow spiritually and intellectually as missionary disciples in the world. The scope of this ministry is throughout the lifetime of the person from birth until death offering opportunities to children, youth, young adults and adults to encounter Christ, deepen their faith, and become active lifelong disciples. Recognizing the important role that families play in faith formation, the Director is responsible for ensuring that methods are created to equip parents with knowledge, skills, and resources to form themselves and to develop the faith life of their children and practice faith at home as a family. This role also focuses its attention beyond the parishioners and into the community as it strives to make disciples, build community and inspire witnesses. It is a ministry of accompaniment and calls for the Director to be available to the community to walk with parents, catechists and other adults as they seek to know God. Responsibilities • Directs faith formation ministries for children, teens, adults and families • Adapts Faith Formation materials for cultural and special needs • Provides sacramental preparation for Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation and Marriage in collaboration with the parish Director of Liturgy • Sees that opportunities are provided that bring all levels of faith formation beyond learning to missionary discipleship through peace and justice experiences and service Learning opportunities • Seeks new methods and implements ways for engaging parents and families in faith formation regularly that include hospitality, prayer, learning and service opportunities • Uses and helps others to use current technology for learning and communicating. • Oversees the planning and implementation of the parish Faith Formation calendar, scheduling sessions, meetings, space, rituals and prayer opportunities, sacrament celebrations and catechist formation. • Oversees the visioning and implementation of ongoing collaborative ministry efforts that brings together families and the parish community through intergenerational and inter-cultural experiences of faith formation, including celebrations, prayer, learning, and service opportunities. • Assures that the faith formation ministries comply with the guidelines for Protecting God’s Children for those who minister with and to children in accordance with the Archdiocese of Chicago policies. • Recruits and screen catechists for all faith formation programs and provides initial training for new catechists and ongoing opportunities for all through workshops, conferences and in-service. • Maintains accurate records on enrollment, attendance and sacraments. • Prepares an annual budget in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Pastor and collects tuition and fees for all parish faith formation Internal Candidates (existing employees) – Please complete the subject field of your email with the following: “Internal Candidate – Job Title – Full name” External Candidates - Please complete the subject field of your email with the following: “Job Title – Full name”


• Ability to form and nurture a community of missionary disciples through encounter, accompaniment and sending forth • Ability to foster a pastoral ministry that empowers people to enculturate the Gospel in their own culture and to foster unity in diversity in the Catholic Church by utilizing human, spiritual, theological, and pastoral approaches proper to each culture • Practicing Catholic with solid grounding in Catholic identity and the faith tradition • Facility with multi-cultural and multi-ethnic expressions of the Catholic faith • Knowledge of adult faith formation methods • Imaginative use of numerous formats for the communication and experience of a lived and explicit faith: in classrooms, retreat settings, worship events, small faith communities, service initiatives, etc. Facility with technology and social media • Comfortable sharing one’s own spiritual journey and sharing with others the difference Jesus Christ makes in their life. • Understanding of the needs of inter-faith families and ability to respond pastorally • Understanding of Lifelong Formation and its key methodologies, components, and strategies. Formation and Education Requirements • Preferred Master’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies, Faith Formation or similar • Preferred Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation Program completion • Preferred Certified Director of Religious Education
