Description:

Saint Irenaeus seeks a Music and Choir Director who will serve as a member of our worship team and pastoral staff and contribute to an inspiring music ministry consisting of robust and participatory ethnically diverse music within the spirit of the Second Vatican Council. We seek a person of creative musical vision who has experience and training in contemporary liturgical and sacred music as well as strong interpersonal and pastoral skills. The Music and Choir Director is responsible for the spiritual and musical formation of other musicians, cantors and the adult choir. The Music and Choir Director is responsible for choosing choral and congregational music for all liturgical seasons of the church year as well as major holy days (i.e. Christmas, Easter); selecting Mass settings for different seasons; and developing worship aides. In addition, the Music and Choir Director is responsible for planning and coordinating special liturgies (i.e. Confirmation, First Eucharist, other parish celebrations) in collaboration with the appropriate staff members. The Music and Choir Director will also be responsible for hiring additional musicians for special and seasonal liturgical celebrations, as requested and in collaboration with the pastor, staff members and liturgy committee. The Music and Choir Director is expected to be on site for the following: -Weekly masses: Saturday, 5:00pm mass; Sunday, 8:30am and 10:30am masses -Special masses: Christmas, Easter, Holy Week, feast days, holy days of obligations, First Communion, Confirmation and other special events as requested -Weekly Choir rehearsals; weekly Cantor rehearsals. (Adult choir sings at the Sunday, 10:30 a.m. mass, September through May). Weekly evening and Sunday morning rehearsals are required. -Manage planning and vocal/instrumental playing at funerals and weddings -The Music and Choir Director will spend ten to fifteen (10-15) hours per week for planning, preparation, rehearsal and vocal/instrumental presentation. Office hours one day per week are required; remaining planning hours may be worked off site. -Monthly Staff Meetings -Monthly Liturgy Team Meetings. All materials must be submitted electronically. Requirements:

Significant formal training in vocal and instrumental music; Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Music and/or Liturgy preferred. Excellent vocal skills; and ability to play both piano and organ. Capable of inspiring our parish community through vocal and instrumental liturgical accompaniment. Familiarity working in a diverse, multicultural community is preferred. Diverse cultural awareness, including skills, talent and instrument experience; as well as cultural adaptation of the Liturgy is a plus.
