Description:

The Parish Business Manager/Operations Director is a professional administrator who reports directly to the Pastor. This minister assists the Pastor with the stewardship of the physical, financial and personnel resources of the Parish, in accordance with Archdiocesan policies and guidelines. The Parish Business Manager is a person of faith committed to Gospel values. He or she values the organization and responsible management of resources, and helps the Church fulfill its mission and purpose.

A. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Prepares budgets, annual reports, interim reports, general ledgers and other monthly reports.

• Handles bank relations to include management of accounts and problem solving.

• Manages bookkeeping functions including, but not limited to, payables and receivables and all parish revenues and expenses.

• Staff liaison to Parish Finance Council.

• Oversees maintenance personnel and assists in determining priorities & ordering supplies.

• Assists in fund raising events, pledge drives, parish offertory collections and stewardship in coordination and cooperation with Parish Development Coordinator.

• Ensures that all federal, state and local taxes are paid in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

• Oversees construction/maintenance repair projects on parish buildings and, as per previous agreement with NCA, in cooperation with the Administration of NCA as it pertains to spaces under NCA’s control.

B. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

• Implements personnel policies: develops hiring and termination procedures, job descriptions, personnel evaluations, open enrollment and EEO reports for administrative and support staff.

• Maintains records for all church employees in regard to the protection of children and youth including compliance audit information on child safety training (VIRTUS), criminal background checks, etc. as required by Archdiocesan policy.

• Manages payment of salaries and benefits.

C. COMMUNICATION/INFORMATION

• Oversees the management of parish financial records.

D. GENERAL

• Attends meetings relative to the role as necessary, such as Deanery, Vicariate and Archdiocesan meetings.

• Directs purchasing procedures.

• Interacts with Pastoral Staff on administrative and financial matters, as necessary.

E. COMPETENCIES AND EDUCATION

• Understands and supports mission and purpose of the church and parish.

• Knowledgeable of the principles of accounting.

• Knowledgeable of safety and security issues.

• Knowledgeable of personnel issues, including policies, procedures, selection, benefits, federal and state laws, employee motivation, team building, etc.

• Knowledgeable of Parish policy and guidelines in relationship to Archdiocesan policy and guidelines.

• The professional business experience of the candidate(s) is critically important and should be considered as continuing education in situations where a college degree does not exist.

• Undergraduate degree in business or related field.

• Five years business and /or church related experience.

• Computer literate in Office Suite (word processing, spreadsheet, database) preferably Microsoft Office. Knowledge of QuickBooks and other financial software.

Requirements:

Bachelors Degree preferred; several years experience in a non-profit or religious organization.
