Description:

Coordinates the liturgical spirit of the parish and fosters hospitality and harmony. Fosters parishioner participation in the Mass/service. Follows liturgical norms for Mass/service/rite with attention to aesthetics and needed materials/supplies, e.g., linens, bread, wine, sacred vessels, vestments, etc. Forms, develops, and consults with SLAW (prayer and worship committee). Taps into committees to gain feedback on the liturgical experience for continuous improvement. Coordinates and provides initial and ongoing formation of ministries in the area of liturgy; ushers/greeters, acolytes, sacristans, art & environment, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, servers, gift bearers, sacred movement, sound and light, linen and music ministries. Recruits (new and existing), screens, trains, enriches, and recognizes ministers. Recruits, rehearses, accompanies and directs choirs. Meets regularly with ministry teams, e.g., practices, rehearsals, and meetings. Prepares written schedules with backups. Assists visiting clergy. Plans and coordinates rehearsals. Coordinates music with liturgical plan. Documents readings, songs, petitions, etc. for each Mass and service, as a reference. Creates operating procedures for each aspect of the position. Maintains/updates worship hymnals/worship aids/booklets. Inventories liturgical supplies. Plans and prepares music all liturgies including weekend, holy day and school liturgies, penance services, baptisms, etc. Fosters parishioner participation in music. Fosters unity among all musicians to create a spirit of harmony with presider and other liturgical ministers. Coordinates music e.g., instrumentalists, cantors, choirs, etc. with liturgical plan. Ensures organ, piano, and other instruments are maintained, repaired and tuned, as needed. Expands song as prayer into the spirituality of the liturgy. Obtains and maintains copyright and licensing requirement permissions for music. Ensures qualified substitutes are present when absent, Mass/service, funerals, weddings, etc. Collaborates with other staff and acts as a resource for parish/school groups. Fosters positive public relations in and outside the parish/school. Attends respective Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops/programs, as needed. Works with the Pastor to develop the annual budget. Authorizes respective expenditures within the approved budget. Attends staff meetings. Attends other meetings at the request of the Pastor. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, Master's preferred. Three years’ experience leading Catholic liturgy, including liturgical documents, and music to support required. Knowledge of the Roman Missal, lectionary, liturgical year, liturgical norms and regulations, and liturgical tradition and practice. Performance skills for keyboard (both organ and piano) and voice. Working knowledge in MS Office products. Practicing Catholic required.
