Description:

Our Junior High Youth Ministry program goals are to engage junior high teens and their parents, to evangelize and inspire a renewed understanding of the Catholic faith, and to invite teens and parents into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Our high-energy and dynamic program is built on these three cornerstones: Relationship, Discipleship & Mission. The youth meet once or twice a month at scheduled times for meaningful experiences of prayer, worship, scripture, community service and catechesis within a relational small group context in preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. JHYM also offers a once-a-month Sunday evening Teen Mass that is specifically designed for and targets youth and their families, to re-engage and empower youth to understand, embrace, and live out discipleship. The Teen Mass creatively uses music, preaching, and engaging extras to grab your children's attention, make them think, and empower them to take action—specifically, to understand, embrace, and live as present day followers of Jesus. The person who fills this position will serve as a collaborative partner on the parish faith formation team. The ideal candidate: • Must know and believe authentic Catholic doctrines and is able to communicate them in a pastoral way and does not promote a personal agenda that undermines or contradicts gospel values and church teachings • Recognizes and supports parents in their role as the first catechists for their children by empowering, equipping and encouraging them • Is prepared to develop models of catechesis for outreach to the unchurched, the inactive and the active of all ages and cultures • Is aware that the “Christian community is the origin, locus and goal of catechesis” and that the parish is critical to effective catechesis • Understands the importance of collaborating with other parish leadership to form the community for its role as evangelizers • Must be able to work in a team and with a team joyfully and with flexibility • Has strong organizational and administrative skills and has experience planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the ministry of catechesis through the lens of evangelization • Is fully aware of the many and varied changes affecting the family and the manner in which the family manifests itself in the modern world and recognizes and understands the impact of societal and cultural realities on families • Has a broad understanding of current technology and the impact of social media’s value and challenges for evangelization and catechesis; and embraces digital catechesis as a viable means for evangelization and catechesis • Is comfortable speaking in public to large groups of people and must have good writing skill He/she will be charged with providing leadership, coordination, and support for faith formation for all ages in the parish with primary responsibility for teens in grades 7 & 8 and their parents (in coordination with the St. Jude Director of Youth Ministry). Requirements:

• Possesses a comprehensive understanding and comfort with Catholic theology, including scripture, creed, morality, and the sacraments; • Exhibits a commitment to on-going personal spiritual growth and formation • Is a fully initiated and active member of a Roman Catholic faith community • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Education, or related field • 1-3 years’ experience in the field of Catholic faith formation
