Description:

The Director of Music at Queen of Martyrs is a professional who holds credentials in music and who has a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy. This person of faith is responsible for the effective planning, coordination and execution of music within the liturgical celebrations of the parish. The ideal candidate should be proficient in piano and organ; and have the ability to direct the adult choir, two children's choirs, cantors and the bell choir. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Schedule liturgical music for Sunday masses. 2. Recruits, rehearses and works with the Adult, Children and Bell Choirs. 3. Supervises and assists all cantors in leading song for weekend liturgies. 4. Works with the Clergy, Faith Formation Coordinator, Principal and other staff members ensuring appropriate music for school liturgies, family masses and sacramental celebrations. 5. Arranges and helps to select music for weddings and funerals in accordance with Archdiocesan policy and guidelines. 6. Selects liturgical music resources and orders new music for the choir and parish. 7. Attends and assists liturgy committee meetings to help in planning themes and music for seasonal celebrations of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. 8. Develops and implements a yearly music budget in collaboration with the Pastor and Operations Director. 9. Keeps an inventory of supplies and submits all bills to the Administrative Assistant in a timely manner. 10. Manages equipment and instruments ensuring proper maintenance is performed. 11. Ensures the sound system is properly operating. 12. Attends bi-weekly staff meetings. 13. May be given various assignments and projects consistent with responsibility level and general duties as Music Director.

Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES 1. Knowledgeable and comfortable with Church music literature in all forms and styles for the congregation, choirs (adult, teen, and children), vocalists and instrumentalists. 2. Has thorough understanding of the musical, liturgical and pastoral judgments which must be made in selecting music of liturgy. 3. Is proficient in at least one performance area (e.g. keyboard, choral, voice). 4. Bachelor's degree.
