Description:

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • *Recruit, supervise and schedule catechists and aides, substitutes and office volunteers.
  •  *Provide catechetical certification statistics to the Archdiocese.
  •  *Meet with catechists at every grade level to discuss and evaluate curriculum and procedures.
  •  *Coordinate and facilitate archdiocesan Safe Environment programs for children.
  • Supply catechists with information on training/workshops/meetings available to foster their faith.
  •  *Work as a liaison between the parish and the Bishop’s office to coordinate Confirmation Day details.
  •  *Organizes and conducts parent meetings for orientation and each sacrament.
  •  *Arrange for retreat speakers, volunteers and materials.
  •  *Make classroom visits to sacramental students prior to sacrament day to answer questions and curb anxiety.
  •  *Arrange for photograph and video contracts for sacraments.
  •  *Prepare banners to display in church as sacraments are made.
  •  *Assist Liturgical Minister in preparing liturgy for sacramental and other Masses and prayer services.
  •  *Organize Confirmation service projects and coordinate interviews with active parishioners.
  •  *Organize sacramental receptions and luncheons in conjunction with support staff.
  •  Arrange for clergy to speak with students regarding sacraments, vocations, and other topics.
  •  *Help to provide materials to Liturgy of the Word for Children.
  •  *Address student behavioral issues.
  •  *Supervise department secretaries and per diem employees.
  •  *Retrieve and return departmental phone messages, email, postal mail, and cover office hours when support is absent.
  •  *Cover class time hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  •  *Prepare handbooks, newsletters, liturgical books, worship aids, event reminders and reply to mail in English/Spanish.
  •  *Prepare and maintain department calendar.
  •  *Purchase textbooks, supplementary materials, office supplies and Bibles.
  •  Assist with weekly Liturgy Binders as needed and prepare minister sign in sheets.
  •  May be given various other assignments and projects consistent with the responsibility level and general duties of a secretary.
  •  Prepare and prioritize a personal to-do list.
  •  *Prepare and distribute student text books and folders in conjunction with support staff.
  •  Distribute catechist/teacher manuals.
  •  *Prepare and maintain classroom school supply boxes, catechist bins, catechist mailboxes and prepare mailings in conjunction with support and volunteer staff.
  •  Research and lay out items of interest and resources for catechists and Frassati Catholic Academy teachers and administration.
  •  Maintain and inventory supply closets, reference materials and classroom supplies in conjunction with support staff.
  •  Prepare set-up requests for events.
  •  Act as a liaison between the School of Religion and all other departments, Frassati Academy and Parish Office.
  •  Prepare and publish publicity materials i.e. flyers, newspaper and bulletin announcements.
  •  *Keep financial books in Excel. Collect tuition in conjunction with support staff. Work out financial payment plans and send out financial statements and reminders. Make any collection calls or send collection letters to delinquent accounts. Turn in cash, checks and financial reports to the business office. Prepare, implement and monitor budget.
  •  *Place catechists and aides in appropriate classrooms.
  •  *Follow up on excessive student absences.
  •  *Keep record numbers for parish and archdiocese, i.e. number of students, catechists, aides, Spanish Prayer Camp, VBS, and sacraments – broken down by grades and language.
  •  *Maintain School Reach site in conjunction with support staff.
  •  *Create and maintain Virtus files for School of Religion and Parish employees and volunteers. Arrange English and Spanish Virtus training in-house with the Parish facilitators.
  •  *Plan and execute Vacation Bible School with support staff.
  •  *Prepare agenda items and attend committee and staff meetings.
  •  *Network with Vicariate DRE’s and CRE’s (LCCA).
  •  *Provide simple first aid to students as needed and call parents. Act as a primary connect to the parish Emergency Operations Plan.

Requirements and Preferences Education Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Religious Education, Theology, Pastoral Studies or other related field relevant to position.
  • Advanced Certificate in Catechetical Leadership, Religious Education, or Youth Ministry from a Catholic Institution or diocese.

Education Required:

  • BS or BA, non-religious major, Archdiocesan Catechist Certification

Experience Preferred:

  • Catechetical leadership experience in any diocese, parish or Catholic school.

Experience Required:

  • Previous work in the field of education, administration, management, program/level coordinator, training of volunteer catechists, youth ministers and/or other ministers.

Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Skilled in public relations.
  • Manage and negotiate conflict.

Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel; possess good organizational skills.
  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish preferred)

Other Required:

  • Capable of working in an organized and systematic way toward achievement of a purpose or a vision.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Act professionally in all duties and realize the confidentiality of the position.

Requirements:

Basic Functions

  • Implement a plan for comprehensive religious education in light of the parish vision and mission and the archdiocesan policies, under the direction of the Pastor.
  • Collaborate with Pastor, members of parish and staff and Education Commission and Religious Education Advisory Group integrating area of responsibility with the overall parish endeavor.
  • Manage and oversee the planning, administration, budgeting and record keeping of parish catechetical programs.
  • Manage recruitment, orientation, supervision and evaluation of catechists and other catechetical personnel.
  • Provide ongoing formation opportunities and spiritual development for catechists and catechetical personnel.
