Confirmation and Youth Ministry Coordinator

The Coordinator is a member of the parish staff and works closely with the Formation Team to evangelize and share the Good News with the youth of the parish. The Coordinator will support, develop and strengthen the spiritual growth of middle school youth and high school teens in our parish including preparing students for confirmation in 8th grade.

This position will seek to create dynamic opportunities to deepen students’ faith, serve others, develop leadership skills and light a fire in the hearts of the parish youth to learn about their faith. The Coordinator must be available to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

This is a full-time position with benefits.

Responsibilities

Confirmation

Develops and carries out sacramental preparation for confirmation, including the parish-wide confirmation retreat and mass, in collaboration with parish and school staff. Plans and presents topic/theme material to the students during the 7th grade sessions on Wednesdays once a month, teaches 8th grade sessions twice a month, and leads the 8th grade St. Raymond School/Religious Education students together on Sundays once a month.

Collaborates with the formation team on middle school religious education registration and creates grade-level syllabi for middle school youth. Recruits and evangelizes middle school catechists and small group facilitators. Assists middle school religious education catechists with preparing and teaching the curriculum.

Is flexible to step in as a facilitator or catechist as needed. Communicates weekly with junior high religious education families and as needed with confirmation families. Participates in developing Family Faith Nights and additional liturgies/services to ensure the scope is appropriate for middle school youth and families. Works with the communications/media editor to create social media posts and bulletin content for confirmation.

Youth Ministry

Works in collaboration with the faith formation team, parish and school staff to create a curriculum calendar including engaging programs, relevant topics, meaningful service projects and inspiring retreats for high school teens. Coordinates with the Director of Religious Education, formation team and school staff to create a comprehensive and coordinated program that transitions students from confirmation into youth ministry seamlessly.

Coordinates with the pastor and liturgical team for monthly teen-lead masses on Sunday evenings. Plans and executes parent formation events. Selects, organizes and executes a summer mission trip and creates fundraising opportunities. Recruits, provides formation and coordinates adult small group leaders to assist the youth ministry program. Works within the guidelines set by the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection.

Develops appropriate relationships with students with the focus of leading them closer to Christ through the example of discipleship. Adheres to the recommendations of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s adults to teen rations for all on and off-site programming. Works with the communications/media editor to publicize youth ministry activities, have a parish website presence, create social media posts and bulletin content.

Requirements:

Qualifications Master’s degree in theology, Pastoral Studies, Faith Formation or equivalent preferred. Previous experience directing parish formation, pastoral accompaniment, or teaching. Understanding and support of the Catholic Church’s teaching, mission, and values.

Team player with strong conflict resolution skills, facilitation skills and the ability to dialogue openly. Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

Proficient in Google and MS Office skills including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. Virtus trained and is a mandated reporter.
