Description:

St. Patrick Church in Lake Forest seeks a qualified, permanent part-time Accompanist as soon as possible. The Accompanist works collaboratively with the Pastor and the Director of Music in planning and implementing the music and liturgies at St. Patrick Church incorporating the rich tradition and range of sacred music. Requirements:

Responsibilities:

• Accompany weekend Masses. Mass schedule is 5pm Saturday and 8am, 10am, 11:45am Sunday.

• Opportunities to accompany Funerals and Weddings which are compensated additionally to what is offered for this position.

• Accompany liturgies for major Holy Days, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, First Communion, Confirmation, Thanksgiving, holy days of obligation, etc.

• Play music selected by the Director of Music for liturgies (propers, hymns, psalms, solo repertoire) with guidance from the Director of Music.

• Rehearsal with parish choir prior to weekend liturgies. The choir sings from mid-September through Pentecost. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7pm-9pm.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Proficient on organ and piano.

• Degree in music or equivalent experience.

• Able to effectively lead the congregation through hymn playing.

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of organ registration.

• Experience in playing organ and piano and singing for Masses while playing.

• Advanced capability to play solo repertoire and also for improvising.

• Capable and comfortable with sight reading; ability to play individual parts from choral score or chord/lead sheet.

• Comfortable with teaching parts and leading rehearsal, when needed.

• Experience with traditional Catholic music.

• Understanding of Catholic liturgical practice, liturgical music, Catholic values and understanding.

• Exhibits flexibility and responsibility.

• Pays attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
