Description:

St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, in Chicago, seeks a qualified part-time Choir Director, beginning February, 2022 (or earlier pending availability). St Stanislaus Kostka Parish is a vibrant parish in the city of Chicago serving a multi-ethnic community of English-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and Polish-speaking parishioners. The Choir Director works collaboratively with the Pastor, Organist, and Director of Music in planning and implementing the music and liturgies at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, incorporating the rich tradition and range of sacred music.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Choir Director for Liturgical Celebrations: Cantor for the 7am English liturgy and cantor or direct choir for the 10am English liturgy. Opportunities to sing for Funerals, Weddings, and Quinceaneras which are all compensated additionally to what is offered for this position

Direct choir or cantor for major holy days, Christmas, Holy Week, First Friday Mass (once a month at 7:00 p.m.), and holy days of obligation, etc.

Work with and help schedule professional cantor(s)/section leaders for liturgies with music.

Plan music selections for liturgies (propers, hymns, psalmody, solo repertoire) with guidance from the Director of Music, including creating weekly worship aids and special feast day music packets.

Rehearsal with cantor and choir prior to Sunday liturgies (usually occurs immediately preceding the mass)

Administrative Tasks:

Coordinate with couples to plan music for weddings (~20 per year) – compensated separately

Coordinate with families to plan funerals and memorial Masses – compensated separately

Create weekly worship aids for English mass

Log hymns used in worship aids on One License

Requirements:

Qualifications include:

Excellent choral conducting and vocal skills

Experience with traditional Catholic music (Gregorian chant, Latin and English chant)

Degree in music or equivalent experience

Practicing Catholic

Good understanding of Catholic liturgical practice, liturgical music, Catholic values and teaching

Even though this position is in English-only, the applicant has a desire to serve in a multi-ethnic parish: English-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and Polish-speaking Exhibits flexibility and responsibility
