RESPONSIBILITIES

Ministerial:

Develops and implements curriculum for parish religious education students grades K-6. (St. Raymond School has its own curriculum mandated by the Office of Catholic Schools.) Develops and implements programs for sacramental preparation for Eucharist and Reconciliation. (Sacramental preparation is included in St. Raymond School curriculum.) Develops approaches to religious education that support evangelization by creating entry points and opportunities for families to become more active in the parish. Collaborates with the Director of Engagement in recruitment, orientation, ongoing formation opportunities, supervision and evaluation of parish volunteers working with religious education and sacramental formation. Collaborates with the Principal of St. Raymond School and second grade teachers to coordinate preparation for sacramental celebrations. Organizes and leads sacramental preparation meetings with parents (including school parents). Provides support and resources for Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Vacation Bible School as needed. Attends meetings of parish general staff and pastoral staff. Participates in meetings and relates to deanery, vicariate, archdiocesan and ecumenical structure as appropriate.

Administrative:

Maintains and updates necessary budget and registrations for ministry activities in collaboration with the parish finance office. Coordinates and facilitates the Archdiocesan of Chicago Safe Environment programs for youth, volunteers and parents in religious education programs and services. Reports statistics of parish religious education as requested for the annual report. Ensures adequate forms of communication and use of technology to support the religious education program.

REPORTS TO: Pastor

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree required; theological or ministerial focus in education preferred. Prior experience in ministry preferred; strong spiritual leadership skills with a passion for guiding faith formation for parish famalies. Demonstrated understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, missions and values. Team player with strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, decision making ability, and capacity for collaborative ministry. Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Parish Database (PDS) knowledge useful.

Requirements:

Will be responsible for the development, articulation, and implementation of a formation plan for religious education at St. Raymond for children grades K-6. The position involves creative development of cohorts of grade school children (e.g. K-1, 2-4, 5-6), and oversight of catechists in providing for the formation of each of the cohorts.

This is a benefits eligible position, with a minimum commitment of 26 hours per week, including some evening and weekend availability.

Position requires willingness to complete Archdiocese of Chicago catechist certification, Archdiocese of Chicago training for Protecting God’s Children, and Illinois Mandated Reporter training.
