Description:

Reporting to the Director of Catholic Campus Ministry, the University Chaplain for Liturgy and Music prepares, implements, evaluates, and oversees all aspects of the Catholic liturgical life on campus and collaborates with the St. Vincent de Paul Parish staff in executing the weekly 5:00 p.m. Sunday Mass during the academic year. The Chaplain is responsible for the recruitment, training, and ongoing management, supervision, and formation of liturgical ministers, the student liturgy team, and two student employees. Serving as a pastoral resource to the university related to public prayer, pastoral care, and ritual, the Chaplain collaborates with divisional colleagues and the parish staff to plan other Catholic, ecumenical or interfaith prayer services in response to the needs of the community. The Chaplain is a contributing member of the Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) team and participates in collective visioning, implementation, and evaluation of CCM programs. Your job is to coordinate, lead, and oversee the liturgical and musical aspects of DePaul University Roman Catholic liturgies. This includes the Sunday 5:00 p.m. Mass (in collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Parish), weekday Masses, special feast day Masses, Baccalaureate Mass, and additional communal prayer opportunities. You will serve as a resource to the university community to provide pastoral care and ecumenical and interfaith public prayer opportunities as needed. You know how to supervise, mentor, form, and empower student teams and leaders, inspiring them to engage their faith and liturgical prayer life. This includes the student liturgy team, liturgical ministers, and two paid student liturgy assistants. We are interested in people who thrive in a team environment and will excel in collective visioning, shared implementation of initiatives, and evaluation of the effectiveness of our divisional and Catholic Campus Ministry programs and events. A successful candidate possesses superb organizational skills, successfully manages multiple tasks simultaneously, and works well with a wide array of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, and parishioners, as well as ordained clergy and lay ministers. The right candidate will have a heart for ministry and pastoral care in a diverse, multicultural, multi-religious context, with special attention to underserved and underrepresented communities.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in music, theology, or related field. Master’s degree in liturgical studies, sacramental theology, or a related field preferred. Five years' experience coordinating liturgies at a Catholic parish or Catholic university setting. Training and knowledge of current Catholic liturgical teaching and documents. Keyboard skills strongly preferred. Vocal, choral conducting, and ensemble directing skills strongly preferred. Detail-oriented organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously. Strong supervisory skills and ability to manage and collaborate with multiple constituents Well-versed working in interfaith and intercultural contexts. Experience providing pastoral care to college students and adults of all ages, including accompaniment during grief, loss, and moments of crisis. Ability to communicate clearly and consistently with a wide range of theological and pastoral positions. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Finale music program, and video conferencing platforms.
