Description:
St. Pius V Priory is a residence for active and retired brothers of the Dominican Central Province in the upper Midwest. We are a religious congregation within the Catholic Church. Most of the 27 residence are retired and a few are quite elderly. We strive to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable environment where retirees can live out the remainder of their days within a daily schedule of common prayer, limited ministry and fraternity.
We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our facility’s compassionate health care team. The right candidate will interact directly with retired Dominican brothers, providing comfort and assistance with their daily living needs. The successful candidate must have good interpersonal skills and work well with the other members of the healthcare staff.
Requirements:
Among the specific responsibilities are to:
• Develop and implement programs for brother’s restorative care, activities and specific programs
• Assist with daily living activities including ambulating brothers and making sure they have adequate hydration and nutrition between meals
• Assist brothers with personal hygiene
• Check vital signs and record daily information in the patient’s chart
• Manage medications including picking up prescriptions at the local pharmacy
• Organize the brother’s room so that rooms are free of fall hazards or obstructions
• Assist brothers at doctor’s appointments (mostly at Rush Hospital) and report diagnoses, changes to medications, referrals, etc., to the House Superior
• Supervise the CNA and Housekeeping Staff.
Required skills are:
• Completion of a state approved LPN certification
• Basic computer skills
• Valid Illinois driver’s license and no criminal convictions
• Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy
• Ability to work within a team of professionals under pressure and handle critical situations with a cool head
• At least three years of experience.
