Deacon John Cook

Deacon John Cook hosts this weekly half-hour program that explores a wide range of topics relevant to Chicago's Black and Catholic communities.  Deacon Cook serves at St. Felicitas Parish in Chatham and is very involved in organizing and overseeing youth programs in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

The program is produced under the auspices of the Archbishop of Chicago's Black Catholic Initiative and his liaison, Fr. David Jones, an Archdiocesan Dean and Pastor of St. Benedict the African-East Parish in Englewood.

Deacon Leroy Gill spoke with us leading the show off with his description of Good Friday's Peace March in Englewood with Cardinal Cupich. He spoke of his perceived impact it had and mentioned the upcoming Black Deacons event to keep the momentum going and get people involved in our work against violence. In addition, Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America spoke to us about her impression of the march and the impact that violence has throughout our society as her husband Rev. T. Conrad Selnick both of Skokie who chimes in and shares the unlikely way he met minister Patton of Chicago who shared a story of a shooting that occurred in his Barber shop in Englewood. Finally, Father Thomas Baima closed us out with the total scope of involvement by other religions and all agreed that it hopefully is just the beginning of an ecumenical movement.
