Description:
The Director of Religious Education reports to the pastor and is a full-time member of the parish pastoral staff. Our program meets on Sunday mornings; evening and weekend work is clearly part of the ministry. Salary is commensurate with education and parish experience. DRE is responsible for grades 1-8 catechetical programming for a population of over 400 children. DRE supervises support staff, catechists, and volunteers. Responsibility for catechist formation in accordance with Archdiocesan requirements, record keeping of catechist certification hours, assisting in Virtus training requirements for catechists and volunteers is required. Handling all aspects of sacramental preparation relative to the program is expected: parent meetings, scheduling, calendar planning, maintaining of sacramental records, etc. Knowledge of catechetical curriculum, sacramental theology, resource materials, budgeting, parish and diocesan policies are essential.
Requirements:
Candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic with a master’s degree in religious education, pastoral studies or theology, and have solid experience in parish catechetical ministry. Strong organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills are essential. Excellent speaking skills and effective communication in working with parents, school personnel, catechists, pastor and parish staff are necessary. Competent computer expertise is very important.
