Position Summary:

The Parish Vitality Coordinator is a senior level position within the Archdiocese of Chicago serving the needs of a particular vicariate (pastoral area). As a vicariate level ministerial coordinator, they will support the pastoral vision of the Archbishop of Chicago and the vicar (auxiliary bishop) in fostering collaboration, coordinating training, and ensuring the successful preparation and implementation of the mission imperatives of “Renew My Church.”

• *Helps identify parish needs, and works with Episcopal Vicars, Building the New Reality team and Department of Parish Vitality and Mission colleagues to determine best way to support parishes in addressing those needs.
• Establishes relationships with Deans, pastors and pastoral staffs by visiting parishes to acquire knowledge of parish life and to identify parish needs.
• *Collaborates with the Episcopal Vicar (Auxiliary Bishop) to introduce and implement the pastoral strategy of the Vicariate, and the vision of Renew My Church. Serves as a vicariate ministry coordinator for the specific “Review My Church” initiative.
• Oversees vicariate-level training and capability-building.
• Helps to identify specific ministry needs and develops supporting action plans.
• Fosters collaboration among groupings and between parishes within the vicariate.
• *Orchestrates integrated and holistic support to parishes in their efforts to offer vibrant ministry to their people.
• In collaboration with the Lifelong Formation Coordinator, serves as a consultant to parishes in fostering mission vitality. Serves as a broker for the Building the New Reality and Department of Parish Vitality and Mission resources and as a liaison to the parish.
• Meets regularly with other vicariate Parish Vitality Coordinators and Lifelong Formation Coordinators to provide support.
• *Helps gather and codify best practices in ministry within the Archdiocese of Chicago and from other dioceses.
• *Serves as a core member of the vicariate team in helping ensure vibrant ministry at parishes
• Other responsibilities as assigned

• 3+ years with coordination experience at the parish level, archdiocesan offices, or other mission driven organizations.
• Must demonstrate understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, missions, and values.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Team Player with strong conflict resolution skills.
• Strong facilitation skills; ability to conduct open dialogue.
• Ability to relate to multiple ecclesial levels: parish, deanery, vicariate, and Archdiocesan.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and Power Point.
• Strong decision-making ability and ability to exercise good judgment.
• Fully committed to Catholic Church’s teachings.
• Other skills as deemed necessary by local Episcopal Vicar.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, dependable, and sensitive to racially and ethnically diverse communities.
• Able to deal with multiple projects.
• Exercises sound judgement.

• Master’s Degree in pastoral studies, theology or equivalent degree.
• Lay Ecclesial Ministry experience a plus.
• Participation in one of the national or local initiatives that focus on parish excellence, pastoral leadership, governance, etc. (e.g., Alpha Conference, Divine Renovation Conference, Amazing Parish Conference, Parish Catalyst, Loyola’s IPS Parish based initiatives)
• Bilingual English skills and fluent in written and spoken Spanish or Polish preferred but not required.
