Job Summary

The Director of the Office of Lifelong Formation (OLF) oversees the strategy and successful development and implementation of archdiocesan and vicariate level programs. The director ensures that all programs support the objectives of Renew My Church and ensures a close collaboration with the Office of Evangelization, the Office of Young Adult Engagement, Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity, the Mission Office, Office of Divine Worship and Sacraments, the vicariate and department coordinators, and all other relevant archdiocesan offices.

The Director is responsible for managing the staff, programs and budgets that support archdiocesan Lifelong Formation services, and coordinates collaboration with the priests, catechetical leaders, catechists and others serving the Catholic community of the archdiocese. 

The director develops and sustains relationship with catechetical leaders of children, youth, young adults, adult and family ministries as well as ministry commissions, catechists and other stakeholders necessary to strengthen communities of faith and society at large. The director supports donor relations and collaborates with the Office of Development in preparing proposals for additional funding and independent financial support.

The director collaborates with other national organizations, and the USCCB on matters of catechesis, catechist’s certification and ongoing formation. The director develops best practices and new programs to support the engagement and faith enrichment of families and individuals within the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Essential Job Functions

  •  Coordinates the development and execution of all programs.  
  • Oversees the Archdiocesan and Vicariate faith formation programs.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees archdiocesan certification and ongoing formation of catechists and Catholic school teachers.
  • Develops relationships with Catechetical Leaders and formators.
  • Oversees the ministerial formation and methodology training of Catechetical Leaders and development of new ministry leadership.
  • Coordinates with the USML in supporting the vocation and formation outreach.
  • Reviews and recommends formational materials and other resources for lifelong formation.
  • Oversees the staff of the OLF and ensures the staff focuses on the Archdiocesan priorities of Making Disciples, Building Communities and Inspiring Witness.
  • Ensures compliance of all stakeholders with Archdiocesan policies and regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Evangelization and the Renew My Church team on ensuing a holistic archdiocesan approach to faith formation and leadership development.
  • Ensures the alignment of the Renew My Church priorities with the strategy and objectives of the Office and all OLF staff.
  • Increases skills and knowledge through continuing education, attending conferences and reading appropriate literature.
  • May be given other assignments and projects consistent with the responsibility level of this position.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values, and availability for overtime, evening or weekend work.
  • 3+years of experience in active ministry.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Master’s Degree in Theology or Minor/emphasis in Religion or Scripture.
  • Fully committed to the Catholic Church’s teaching. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people including university officials, college students, media, and persons with varied social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • 5+ years of proven professional experience in the field of catechesis, Youth and Young Adult educational outreach, ministry and advocacy at the diocesan level, preferred.                                              
  • Working knowledge of social media, general marketing strategies and instructional design techniques, desired.
  • Certifications Preferred: Catechetical Leader, Lay Ecclesial Leader.
