Position Overview

  • Oversee the Archdiocese Pastoral Center (APC) annual and long range budgeting process.
  • Oversee production of Management Reporting and trend analysis.  Lead periodic financial performance reporting, analysis, and review process.  Complete adhoc analyses. 
  • Manage preparations for the Finance Council Meeting materials.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to streamline, automate, and properly control the FP&A function, including the ongoing implementation of the OneStream system FP&A functionality.
  • Lead and develop the FP&A team.  Implement processes to set and achieve individual/team goals, as well as assess performance of team members. 

 

 

Position Specifics

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead, and manage the Archdiocese Pastoral Center (APC) budgeting process.
    • Develop deep understanding of the underlying operations and drivers for the budgets.
    • Lead and manage the annual budgeting process including, guidelines, systems and tools, change tracking, and review and approval. 
    • Lead and manage the long-range planning process including, guidelines, systems and tools, change tracking, and review and approval. 
  • Direct and operate the management reporting and analysis process, including reports and variance analysis, trend analysis, corresponding systems and tools, and review process with functional directors.  Work with functional directors to develop appropriate plans to manage financial issues and opportunities, and achieve budgets. 
  • Leverage the budgeting and management reporting processes to drive accountability and financial control, and help ensure the APC meets financial targets.  
  • Develop an overall FP&A function that will ensure the annual budget process, long range process and management reporting and analysis process all support each other to maximize the comprehensiveness and seamlessness. 
  • Coordinate with Treasury to support Archdiocese of Chicago financing plans.
  • Identify, design and develop opportunities to improve FP&A processes and systems, maximizing the use of automation. 
  • Serve as a backup to the CFO on all operating Finance matters.  
  • Develop and implement initiatives to streamline, automate, and properly control the FP&A function.
  • Align the goals of the Accounting Team to the accounting and reporting needs of the Archdiocese.
  • Lead and develop the FP&A team.  Implement processes to set and achieve individual/team goals, as well as assess performance of team members.  Align the goals of the team to the overall needs of the Archdiocese.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5+ years of experience in Director/Manager positions. 
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance/Accounting, with a preference for advanced degrees in accounting, finance or business. 
  • CPA and/or MBA are preferred.
  • Experience managing finance operations in not-for-profit organizations is preferred.
  • Strong experience in FP&A, with demonstrated business acumen and financial analysis capabilities.  
  • Strong leadership and initiativetaking- ability to assume independence and suggest opportunities for continual improvement
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to synthesize data and information into key messages, implications and recommended actions.
  • Strong interpersonal skillsability to lead meetings with senior staff and build confidence and trust
  • Experience envisioning and delivering transformational changes for operations and organizations.  Comfortable with high change environments and turnaround environments.
  • Strong ability to set priorities in a complex environment and manage resources to meet priority goals and objectives.
  • Strong people leader and record of building strong teams.  Strong record of cross functional consensus-building and coordination, particularly with non-Finance functions.
  • Strong detail orientation and willingness to engage in detail as necessary, without sacrificing the overall perspective.
  • Major financial systems experience:  Microsoft Office suite; Lawson G/L or comparable, Hyperion/OneStream
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities.
  • Affinity for missiondriven, not-for-profit organizations and a commitment to serving the Catholic Church in the Chicago area.  Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.  Hiring preference will be given to candidates who are Catholic.
