Position Summary:

The Director of Catholic Mission & Culture promotes initiatives that foster a vibrant, evangelizing identity and culture in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese. Working in coordination with other offices of the Archdiocese, the Director helps the Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) achieve its Catholic identity strategic goals, including providing direct support for a number of religious programs and the overall Archdiocesan evangelization plan. This position supports implementation of the ministerial principles of Renew My Church across the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Responsibilities:

  • With the Superintendent, drives the overall strategy for Catholic identity and culture in the schools of the Archdiocese, in coordination with the overall Archdiocesan evangelization plan.

 

  • Provides support for the Regional Directors in monitoring the quality of Catholic identity and culture for the schools in their portfolio. Provides input and support for Regional Directors and individual schools in improving Catholic identity-related outcomes.

 

  • Oversees all metrics and rubrics used for measuring Catholic identity and culture for schools.

 

  • Ensures alignment of the evangelization and formation programs as dictated by Renew My Church. Attends key Renew My Church meetings, as necessary.

 

 

  • With the Director of Leadership Formation, provides for the ongoing spiritual and catechetical formation of school leaders.

 

  • Serves as the primary OCS liaison with the Department of Parish Vitality and Mission (DPVM). Serves on DPVM committees, as needed and approved by the Superintendent and Director of Pastoral Operations.

 

  • Works with Office of Lifelong Formation in designing and implementing all policies related to teacher and principal catechetical certification.

 

  • With the Office of Lifelong Formation, oversees the implementation of the Archdiocesan religion curriculum. Provides updates of the religion curriculum when needed.

 

  • Oversees any/all religion-based standardized assessments in the Catholic schools. Ensures that assessment data is disseminated and understood by principals and teachers.

 

  • Vets and coordinates a database of catechetical speakers, retreat leaders, and other religion service providers who work with Catholic schools. Provides assistance, as needed, to schools seeking such services.

 

  • Provides assistance to Regional Directors and principals, as needed, in the selection of religion texts and other instructional resources.

 

  • Coordinates and supports designated catechetical and liturgical events, at the direction of the Superintendent and the Director of Pastoral Operations.

 

  • Coordinates the Anti-Bias curriculum for Catholic schools. Supports schools, as needed, in the implementation of this curriculum.

 

  • Assist the Superintendent with ensuring the spiritual development and pastoral care of the OCS staff. Serves on the OCS Vitality Committee.

 

  • Serves as OCS liaison for the Catholic Identity Committee of the School Board.

 

  • Coordinates regular meetings with parish/school catechetical leaders, high school campus ministers, religion department chairs, and other designated groups.

 

  • Attends Principal Leadership Days and other designated meetings/events.

 

  • Serves as a member of the OCS Leadership Team.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Theology, Catechesis, Ministry, or related field.

 

  • Experience as a teacher, administrator, youth minister, or campus minister in a Catholic setting. Ability to articulate and model the mission of Catholic Schools.

 

  • Superior knowledge of best practices in evangelization, catechesis, and organizational culture. Excellent written and oral communication skills; capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and activities simultaneously demonstrated experience designing school curricula, and professional/leadership development; ability to form and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.

 

  • Must be a practicing Catholic. Possess integrity, diligence, prudence, vision, sensitivity to diverse communities.
