The Lifelong Formation Coordinator is a senior level position within the Archdiocese of Chicago serving the needs of a particular vicariate (pastoral area) as assigned by the Director of the Office of Lifelong Formation. The Lifelong Formation Coordinator facilitates the process of ministerial improvement, designs solutions to previously diagnosed issues, leads the revitalization process and is a policy resource. The Coordinator will assist the Archdiocesan Director in supporting the needs of local parishes by assessment and evaluation of parish catechesis for adults, young adults, youth, children and families with attention to multi-cultural diversity in the respective vicariate. The Coordinator fosters vicariate and deanery level collaboration and training in the areas of family formation, ministry development and marriage programs and ensures that the policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago are followed.

1. *Collaborates with the Parish Vitality Coordinator in identifying parish needs in regard to catechesis, family formation, marriage preparation, youth and young adult ministry

  • Establishes relationships with deans, pastors and pastoral staffs through visitation of parishes to acquire knowledge of parish life and identify parish needs
  • Participates in annual process for prioritizing needs and determining responsibilities for follow-up regarding Life Long Formation
  • Support a process of catechetical renewal and ongoing formation for Catechetical Leaders, catechists, and the Catholic School Teachers


2. *Collaborates with Episcopal Vicar (Auxiliary Bishop) and the Parish Vitality Coordinators in executing vicariate ministry strategy.

  • Helps identify vicariate-specific ministry needs and develops supporting action plans.
  • Oversees vicariate-level training and capability-building regarding Lifelong Formation for the “Review My Church” initiative.
  • Fosters collaboration between parishes, deaneries and the Office of Lifelong Formation
  • Assists the Director in the Office of Lifelong Formation in introducing and implementing archdiocesan strategies and ministry training programs.


3. Integral part of the integrated and holistic support to parishes in their efforts to offer vibrant ministry to their people

  • Meets regularly with the vicar and deans for support and common strategy
  • Participates in the vicariate-level meeting and communication of Archdiocesan plans, policies and events
  • Works with the parish catechetical leaders in pursuit of approval and certification according to the Certification Standards for Catechetical Leaders as approved by the USCCB-CCA
  • Ensures that the catechist and teacher formation in the various languages, as needed, is adequately provided in the vicariate
  • Provides vicariate and deanery level training and resources for ministers serving in the parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago


4. Integral part of the integrated and holistic support to parishes in their efforts to offer vibrant ministry to their people

  • In collaboration with Parish Vitality Coordinator serves as a consultant to parishes in fostering mission vitality. Helps parishes conduct vitality self-assessments and holds parishes accountable for mission vitality
  • Ensures that the vicariate has a plan regarding ongoing formation and certification of catechists and the Catholic School teachers.
  • Serves as a liaison from the parish to the Office of Lifelong Formation
  • Represents the Director of the Office of Lifelong Formation at the vicariate and the deanery gatherings.
  • Meets weekly with the Parish Vitality Coordinator for support, division of work, etc.
  • Meets bi-weekly with the Director of the Department of Lifelong Formation and other diocesan leaders to ensure ongoing communication and clear strategy.


5. *Serves as a core member of the Office of Lifelong Formation and the vicariate team in helping ensure vibrant ministry at parishes.

  • Integral member of the Office of LLF and an ex-officio member of the Episcopal vicar’s staff
  • Reports to the Director of the Office of Lifelong Formation and collaborates with the vicar
  • Participates in vicariate meetings

 

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years coordination experience at the Parish level with Parish Ministry experience in a Catholic parish environment
  • Must demonstrate understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, missions and values
  • Participation in Parish Transformation preferred, with participation in a formation program offered by the Archdiocese of Chicago highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with strong facilitation skills and the ability to conduct open dialogue
  • Team Player with ability to relate at multiple ecclesial levels: parish, deanery, vicariate, Archdiocesan and departmental
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills including Word and Power Point
  • Strong decision making ability with demonstratied skills in conflict resolution and exercising good judgment
