Celebrating Friendship and Breaking the Fast With The Niagara Foundation

On Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013, Sherif Soydan, Chief Executive Officer of Niagara's Chicago office, and his staff, hosted an annual Community Iftar to commemorate our mutual friendship during Ramadan. Included in the evening's festivities was a delicious dinner of Turkish food (to break the fast) and extraordinary conversation and interreligious dialogue.

Joining the EIA office for the occasion were representatives from the following parishes/organizations:

Old St. Mary's Catholic Church
Resurrection Catholic Church
St. Mary — Libertyville
St. Mary — Riverside
Focolare Movement

Leading the Christian prayer prior to breaking the fast was Fr. Bill Vanecko, Priest in Residence at St. Columbanus. He is also the co-chair of the Muslim Catholic Interfaith Dialogue group, coordinated by the Office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs. Sanya Mansoor, a Northwestern University Sophomore and writing intern at Niagara, summarized the evening's events. We invite you to SELECT THIS LINK to review photos and Sanya's account of the Community Iftar. We are extremely thankful to the Niagara Foundation for their generosity and hospitality.
