Leadership Day Ideas Needed and Catholics Come Home

By Rita Kattner

There has been great excitement around the diocese about Catholics Come Home.  Some parishes have seen new faces in the Church and different events in their parishes.  How about your parish?  This kind of endeavor of the Church in Chicago, Joliet, Rockford cannot be done by you pastor and staff alone.  It takes all of us to be welcoming to everyone in the parish and especially at this time new bodies.

As a lay leader you have an additional responsibility to find ways to reach out to all. Many times people have left the church because they never felt the parish as a place of welcome, of invitation.  Jesus was reaching out to all he met.  As we read in the Acts of the Apostles during this Easter Season the early church was reaching out and growing. They were burning with the love of Jesus in their hearts.  How about each of us today?

We are happy to say that Leadership Day is returning next February 26th   2011. Mark your calendar with the date! The site will be announced soon.  Your presence that day will give you an opportunity to see the church in action and learn many new ideas.

Why don’t you take a few minutes and send us your ideas in the comments section below?   What would you like to see at such a day?  What would be helpful to you personally and to your parish?  Leadership Day is put together by the Office for Councils with clergy, religious and laity, from parishes around the diocese.  We are looking to hear from you so that this day is helpful to you and we can continue with the good work done by the Catholics Come Home campaign. We are all in this together!

I am so happy to see Leadership Day back! I love it and look forward to it. It is great for the average Catholic to learn what is going on in the Archdiocese.

Hi Rita,

I would like to see a workshop on Lectionary based Scripture study. Scripture is becoming more and more popular and it would help to have some training available for those who lead these small groups. We have been doing it for over 4 years now and I think the adults who facilitate could use this training.
