Ecumenical Sunday Prayer Service

What if, members of hundreds of local Orthodox, Protestant and Catholic churches filled the pews in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 2226 N. Hoyne Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60647 for the 2012 Annual Ecumenical Prayer for Christian Unity observance on June 3, 2012 from 4 to 6 o’clock? This would take 1500 of us. Be one of the 1500!

What if, 1500 of us joined our leaders from nineteen Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant Churches for prayer, discussion, food and sharing? Cardinal George will be there to participate with other leaders from these churches. Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago will be preaching at the ecumenical service.

What if, on Ecumenical Sunday, June 3, 2012 the power of the Holy Spirit transformed, renewed and reconciled the faithful within and among our churches? The result could be a personal and church transforming experience in some small, or perhaps one should expect, a large way?

The scriptural theme of the 2012 ecumenical service planned by representatives of Christian Churches in Poland and co-sponsored by the World Council of Churches and the Vatican makes such a promise: “We will all be changed by the Victory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58). This is transformative! This is Good News! This is Gospel!

Here in the Chicago area, at least twenty-three churches in six areas of Metro Chicago collaborated with their neighbors for prayer services and observances during the Jan 18-25 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Come to see and hear their stories and to join our leaders for the ecumenical prayer service for Christian Unity. Come to St. Hedwig Church on June 3, 2012 at 4 pm to promote and pray for Christian Unity.
