Catholic Schools Week 2010: "Dividends for Life"
Catholic Schools Week means grandparents' day, open houses, special prayers, and projects filled with gratitude spilling out of the Catholic Schools of Cook and Lake Counties. When the National Catholic Educational Association marketed the theme “dividends for life,” it was uncannily close to our Archdiocesan “Lessons that Last a Lifetime” annual report focus. If you call up the report, you can read the data and experience the generous spirit that always makes me smile.
But I think maybe you'd have fun looking at local school life as well to experience faith and excellence and shared expectations in action. Peek at the daily news report at St. John Brebeuf (Niles); look at the YouTube “Nets” campaign for Africa at Holy Family (Inverness) or the “Hearts for Haiti” project at St. Barnabas (Chicago); marvel at the Trib band video for Marian Catholic or the WGN special on renewable energy for Haiti at Mother McAuley or other great front-page stories; celebrate Blue Ribbons at St. Joseph (Libertyville) and St. Raymond (Mt. Prospect). Or how about the new websites at St. Stanislaus (Chicago) and St. Thomas the Apostle (Chicago).
Go ahead - use the schools website to link to some of your favorites. See the faith, focus, and achievement of our Catholic Schools on-line - or, better yet, in person - and let me know what jewels you find. There are always challenges, but this is the time to celebrate who we are and WHY we are. Enjoy your glimpse of grace in 255 places that work and love.
