Catholic Family Day at Great America is coming this Sunday - June 22

We all know that family life is full of ups and downs. In fact, some parents have said that living through the joys and challenges of raising children is like riding a rollercoaster! Catholic Family Day at Six Flags Great America is a most-fitting way to celebrate the Year of Strong Catholic Parents.

For many parishes this past year included different ways to support parents in raising faith-filled kids through retreats, workshops, faith sharing and fun events. For other parishes the year was about evaluating how they can become a more family-friendly parish. All the activity in parishes inspired a new website, Catholic Parents Chicago, sponsored by the Archdiocese with ideas and resources for families.

So much was accomplished and there is still more work to be done, but now it's time to celebrate!

Catholic Family Day begins with a celebration of Sunday Mass in the Wilderness Theatre at 9:30 a.m. Families are encouraged to RSVP for the Mass this week since space is limited. Please allow yourself enough travel time to arrive at the park by 9 a.m. The homilist for Mass is Fr. Manny Dorantes, who is also known as the Tweeting Priest.

Tickets are available at a reduced rate. Attendees can also select the picnic package that includes park admission and all you can eat buffet as well as entrance to the Hurricane Harbor waterpark. Everyone taking part in the picnic buffet will also be part of the Great Gospel Giveaway.

Catholic Family Day will create memories for hundreds of families from the Archdiocese who will bring children of all ages. It's a good idea before visiting the park to view the Great America website and read through the helpful hints on how to plan your day and what rides are appropriate for children.

Come to Catholic Family Day and get ready for the ride of your life!
