Description:

St. John of the Cross Parish, a vibrant worship community serving 4,000 families in the western suburbs, is seeking an Accompanist to join our team of music ministers. This position reports to the Director of Music Ministries.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supplemental Accompanist: accompany the Sunday 5:00 PM Mass weekly; accompany funerals and other Masses or liturgies as agreed upon with the DMM; rehearse with cantor(s) 30 min before each assigned liturgy; additional opportunities for substitute accompanist work available
  • Children’s Choir Accompanist: accompany weekly after-school rehearsals on Wednesdays and Thursdays (beginning after Labor Day through May); 1-2 Sunday 9:00 AM Masses per month; Christmas Eve & Easter Day; other Masses and liturgies upon agreement with the Director of Music Ministries.   • Collaborate with the Children’s Choir Director.
  • Participate in music ministry gatherings and formational opportunities.
  • Communicate availability to Director of Music Ministries in a timely manner as requested for scheduling.
  • Uphold safe environment protocols Remuneration.
  • Stipend per rehearsal, per liturgy, in alignment with Archdiocesan guidelines, paid bi-weekly.
  • Federal holidays and liturgies requiring significant extra preparation and/or time will be paid at 1.5 times the regular stipend.

Requirements:

  • Highly proficient piano skills including sight-reading, improvisation, and knowledge of keyboard accompaniment styles; organ proficiency desired.
  • Experience in Roman Catholic liturgy, including knowledge and practical application of the liturgical documents
  • A desire to share God-given talent and love of God with our community and willingness to work collaboratively with our music staff
