Description:

General Purpose of Position: To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry, as outlined in the USCCB document Renewing the Vision. This document identifies eight (8) key areas - advocacy, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, and prayer and worship that should be part of a holistic ministry to Catholic youth.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Provide guidance and Advocacy for teens.

2. Development of an Adult Coordinating Team for Youth Ministry.

3. Develop a strategic Youth Ministry outreach plan.

4. Oversee the Faith on Fire Program – post Confirmation initiative.

5. Mentor youth in developing their leadership skills.

6. Design, direct and evaluate Youth Ministry programs and events for parish teens.

7. Oversee all record-keeping for Youth Ministry and manage the youth ministry budget.

8. Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, social media, bulletin board, etc.).

9. Provide opportunities for teens to engage in community service.

10. Provide Prayer and Worship experiences for teens.

11. Provide Retreats for junior high and high school teens, including, but not limited to, an annual Kairos Retreat, a Jr. High Lock-in, two Confirmation retreats and a Peer Ministry Retreat.

12. Evaluate the effectiveness of Youth Ministry Programs. The Youth minister (YM) also serves as a spiritual leader and role model.

Organizational Relationship and Supervision:

The Youth Minister reports to the Director of Family and Teen Faith (FTF). The Director of FTF provides ongoing supervision and an annual evaluation of the YM’s performance. The YM works collaboratively with the Pastor, members of the FTF department and the entire Holy Family Staff to support and implement the vision and the mission of the parish - To empower all to experience New Life in Christ through sacramental living,transformative worship, lifelong spiritual growth and community in service to others.

The YM will be responsible and subject to Catholic Church policies and doctrine, local parish policies as determined by the Pastor. Attendance at the following meetings is expected: Weekly FTF Staff Meetings and monthly All Staff Meetings.

Requirements:

1. Must be a practicing Catholic; demonstrate an understanding of Catholic teaching and practice.

2. Education: Bachelor’s Degree. A degree in Theology or Youth Ministry or related field is desirable. Certificate in Youth Ministry from a 4-year Catholic College/University is a plus.

3. A minimum of two years’ experience in parish ministry.

4. Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the Catholic Church.

5. Be able to provide faith formation opportunities using a variety of delivery systems, including computer-based technology, digital tools and Apps for education, and social media platforms.

6. The ideal candidate will be a team player, resourceful and flexible; punctual, attentive to detail, with solid follow through and time management skills.

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable facilitating large and small groups.

8. The candidate should be competent using computer-based technology and social media platforms.

9. Ability to work collaboratively; possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth and their parents, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.

10. Weekend and weeknight hours are required.
