Description:
St. Benedict Parish (Irving Park) in Chicago is seeking to hire a full-time benefits-eligible Building Engineer (BE) for its busy expansive campus. The BE, in consultation with the Director of Maintenance and the Director of Finance, will oversee all aspects of maintenance to insure a safe and efficient physical plant. The BE will work with the maintenance staff to coordinate the use of the parish facilities, furnishings and equipment. A college degree, appropriate certifications in maintenance/engineering, or equivalent work experience is required. Previous supervisory experience is desired. Some knowledge of maintenance, in the fields of boilers and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, grounds maintenance and janitorial care, is necessary. The BE should have the ability to understand a variety of technical subjects relating to maintenance, ability to communicate effectively, familiarity with church and school environments and ability to work with a variety of constituents including children. The BE: • will negotiate costs, terms, and conditions of contract when outside contractors are required to perform repairs and improvements • will be the key coordinator for City of Chicago inspections/testing including safety, elevator, boiler, fire, and kitchen sanitation • must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with vendors, the parish staff and parishioners. • must be able to climb ladders, stand for long periods, crouch, and kneel. • is often exposed to outside weather conditions including winter plowing/shoveling Ideally, the candidate would work an afternoon/evening shift with some schedule flexibility based on the campus needs of each day.
