Position Summary

The Coordinator of Ministry and Evangelization provides leadership and assistance in all pastoral areas under the direction of the pastor. This includes pastoral planning and needs assessment for the parish. The Coordinator supports, accompanies, and equips the leaders in parish ministerial areas to focus their attention beyond parishioners and into the community at large.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Pastor and Director of Operations on discerning the vision that best enables the parish to offer ways for all parishioners to practice missionary discipleship.

  • Assists those who coordinate the parish ministries to help them align the vision of their specific ministries to the parish vision and develop teamwork that will support these efforts.

  • Develops an annual budget for the pastoral ministries that provides for parish vitality and evangelization in collaboration with the Business Manager.

  • Develops special projects or ministries such as monthly evangelization events, etc.

  • Collaborate with parish leaders in other local parishes towards best practices in reaching out to the community.

  • Ability to form and nurture a community of missionary disciples through encounter, accompaniment and sending forth.
  • Is sensitive to the realities of parish life as it is lived in our community.
  • Practicing Catholic with solid grounding in Catholic identity and the faith tradition.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork among clergy, staff, volunteers, groupings and the Archdiocese of Chicago.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle and a reasonable balance among the legitimate claims of family, community, personal relationships, and ministry.

Specific Competencies

  • Two to three years experience in evangelization.
  • Aware of current research and data about the spiritual needs and desires of those who do not practice the Catholic faith.
  • Technology, social media, and computer literate.
  • Promotes evangelization as one of the primary activities of all parish ministries and essential for parish vitality.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) competency and demonstrates a sensitivity to the multicultural concerns that affect the community and seeks ways to celebrate its cultural diversity.
  • Demonstrates an interest in the initiation of new members in the parish community and in the processes of Evangelization and Renewal.
  • Develops strategies and methods to help integrate new members into parish ministries and parish life overall.
  • Works within parish structures to make room for new groups, activities, ideas, and members.
  • Comfortable with change and ability to ascertain future needs of ministry and to match resources to the need.

Formation and Education Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Studies, Theology, Faith Formation or similar
  • Preferred working toward completion of Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation Program
  • Preferred working toward Archdiocesan certification as a Pastoral Associate
