Description:

The Coordinator of Liturgy serves on the pastoral staff and supports the vision, mission and values of Saint Rita of Cascia Parish, at both sides, St. Rita Church and St. Clare Chapel, by overseeing the liturgical celebrations, including, but not limited to:

  • Sunday liturgies, holy days of obligation, holy week, confirmations, first communions, funerals, and weddings.
  • Serves as the on-site liaison of coordination at the liturgies.
  • This position also includes, but is not limited to, volunteer recruitment, basic liturgical minister training and overseeing the scheduling of ministers.
  • A strong candidate will be friendly, calm in stressful scenarios and able to bring pastoral sensitivities to difficult situations.
  • Must be available on weekends, evenings, Christmas, Holy Week and other special liturgical celebrations.
  • Saint Rita of Cascia Parish is committed to a collaborative model of ministry, involving both staff and volunteers.
  • Generally 15-18 hours per week, but more during busy liturgical times (e.g., Holy Week, Novena of Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc.).
  • This is an hourly, non benefits-eligible position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Practicing Roman Catholic with knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions.

• Great appreciation for liturgy and general knowledge about church worship (extensive experience and/or formal training and education in liturgy highly preferred.) 

• Ability to bring a spiritual and pastoral presence to the volunteers and congregation.

• Highly detail oriented and organized.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to take direction, provide leadership and utilize good time management and multi-task in a collaborative environment.

• Experience with project management and communications.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and develop open, respectful, positive and cooperative relationships.

• Strong administrative and computer skills.

• Availability for weekends and evenings.

• Bilingual English and Spanish

• Sensitive to bicultural traditionsin North American and Latino cultures.

Detailed Scope of Responsibilities:

1) Prepares, attends and chairs liturgy meetings (once every 6-8 weeks).

2) Attends parish staff meetings

3) Present at special liturgies and Sunday liturgies as much as possible or as needed or requested by the pastor

4) Administration of liturgical ministers:

a. Trains and oversees the responsibilities of the individual Mass coordinators for Sunday liturgies

b. Ensures that Mass coordinators create monthly liturgical ministers for Sundays and that ministers are scheduled for other special liturgies

c. Maintain database of current liturgical ministers.

d. Recruits (and trains as necessary) new altar servers and other liturgical ministers

e. Ensure that all extraordinary ministers of communion have been mandated

f. Oversees functions of all liturgical ministers, in collaboration with Mass coordinators and heads of liturgical ministries

5) Prepares and plans liturgies:

a. Designs and coordinates Sunday and seasonal/special parish liturgies, in collaboration with the pastor and liturgy committee, in particular the Mass Coordinators

b. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Designing worship aids, coordinating with presider(s) and other ministers on the logistics/structure of each (special) liturgy, ensuring sufficient ministers are present and instructed on what needs to be done, preparing binders for lectors, preparing presider guides, preparing anything needed for special liturgies (e.g., ashes, candles, holy water, etc.),

c. Oversees general intercessions for liturgies, including for Sunda

6) Works cooperatively with the parish musicians and planning music for liturgy, as needed.

7) Works cooperatively with the Lifelong Formation Staff in planning parish sacramental celebrations

8) Assists as a liturgical minister in parish sacramental celebrations, as needed

9) Coordinates and assists in church liturgical environment, including with parish maintenance staff (for decorations as well as ongoing needs – such as changing candles)

10) Maintains liturgical and related items and their storage in church and sacristy, including letting business manager know when items need to be ordered or asking maintenance staff to assist as needed

11) Assists as MC at special liturgies upon request of the Pastor or Associate Pastor.

12) Make checks requests for liturgical celebration offerings/stipends when needed.

13) Is in constant dialogue with the scheduler secretary regarding to schedule of presiders for Sunday liturgies, Confessions, and other liturgies, (e.g., weddings, quinceañeras, anniversaries, etc.

14) Coordinates the parish gift shop and its operations (in collaboration with the parish business manager for purchases and money)

15) Other tasks related to role as needed.
