Description:

St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Mundelein, IL (Archdiocese of Chicago) is seeking a Director of Music and Liturgy.

  • The Director will assist the Pastor with overall efforts to ensure our liturgies are the source and summit of Christian life and to enable our parishioners to encounter Jesus Christ through prayer, the sacraments, and worship.
  • Work with the Worship Commission, Pastoral Staff and Pastor, the Director will help plan, prepare, coordinate and implement ongoing liturgy, prayer and music opportunities for everyone in the parish.
  • Develop, rehearse, direct and recruit the members of our choirs and cantors.
  • Work to achieve a good balance of traditional and contemporary musical styles and at all times respect the importance of the Assembly and its right to fully and actively participate in the liturgy.
  • As a member of the Pastoral Staff, the Director is expected to take an active pastoral role in the parish. This includes helping to identify, develop and retain strong teams of volunteer leaders critical to the success of not only liturgy and music, but also all parish ministries.

Requirements:

The candidate for this position should possess the following characteristics and skills:

  • Be a practicing Catholic who understands and supports Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values. Able to comfortably witness to one’s own faith journey.
  • 3-5 years of experience preparing various liturgical celebrations.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading congregational song and choral conducting.
  • Proficient keyboard accompaniment skills. Organist and Cantor skills desired. Applicant will be required to perform a piece on piano or pipe organ.
  • Knowledge of the Church’s official liturgical books and various rites used in celebrating the sacraments of the Church in their appropriate liturgical contexts according to Vatican II principles.
  • Knowledge and comfort with Church music literature in all forms and styles for the congregation, choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists.
  • Comprehensive vision and understanding of evangelization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of sound systems.
  • Provide leadership, music and direction at four liturgies every weekend, as well as holy days, funerals, weddings, sacrament celebrations, and special parish liturgies and events.
  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in Liturgy, Sacred Music, Pastoral Studies, Theological Studies or Musical Performance. Master’s Degree a plus.
  • This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
