Description:

Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, located in Chicago's Buena Park neighborhood, has an immediate opening for a Business Manager. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, benefited and requires education and experience commiserate with the position.

The Parish Business Manager is a steward of the physical, financial, and personnel resources of the parish. This position reports to the Pastor and functionally to the Director of Vicariate Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Prepares, evaluates, and communicates the Parish budgets, annual reports, profit & loss, balance sheet, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger.
  • Develops monthly variance reports and forecasts. Reviews all reports with the Pastor and Principal (as applicable).
  • Ensures proper internal controls are in place and followed.
  • Serves as Parish representative to banks, manages accounts, and identifies and resolves discrepancies.
  • Performs bookkeeping functions including but not limited to payables and receivables and all other Parish revenue and expenses.
  • Oversees purchasing, contract negotiations and vendor relationships.
  • Acts as the staff liaison to Parish Finance Council; supports School Board as applicable and necessary.
  • Coordinates capital campaign pledges and collections, fund raising events, pledge drives, Parish offertory collections and stewardship.
  • Utilizes Archdiocesan best practices.
  • Confirms that all federal, state and local taxes are paid in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT:

  • Implements Archdiocesan Human Resources policies; develops Parish specific job descriptions and manages Open Enrollment.
  • Coordinates employee job performance evaluations with the Pastor.
  • Manages payment of salaries and benefits.
  • Oversees the management of the Parish office.

COMMUNICATION/INFORMATION:

  • Directs/oversees preparation of publication of relevant information presented in the Sunday Bulletin.
  • Prepares Annual Report for Parishioners.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the Parish census and database.
  • Maintains Information Technology including but not limited to computers, internet, telephone, copiers, etc.
  • Oversees the management of Parish operational and financial records.

BUILDING MANAGEMENT:

  • Manages major repairs, renovations and capital projects in accordance with Archdiocesan policies.
  • Acts as liaison to Archdiocesan administrative agencies.
  • Manages custodial maintenance functions.
  • Acts as a resource for the Building Committee of the Parish Council.
  • Is responsible for Parish security, leasing, rental, use of Parish facilities, and acts as a liaison to local government agencies.

OTHER:

  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Minimum 5 years in an Accounting or Finance role within a Parish or business entity.
  • Ability to work in team environment and is Mission focused.
  • Demonstrates understanding, respect and support the Catholic Church teachings, mission and values.
  • Has thorough knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Experienced in Human Resources practices, including people leadership, interviewing and selection, policy application, and employment practice laws.
  • Strong Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel,PDS and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communications, interpersonal, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Can work honoring high levels of confidentiality. 
  • Has an ability to manage multiple tasks well.
  • Availability to attend frequent evening meetings and/or work on weekends and work an unpredictable schedule if necessary.
