The mission of Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church has been given to her by Jesus Christ: “Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Mt 28:19-20) As the local manifestation in Niles, Illinois of the universal Church, we will serve this mission through engaging seekers by the works of mercy, proclaiming the Gospel, and inviting others to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ; enlivening believers with catechesis faithful to the Magisterium, formation in a life of prayer and virtue, and beautiful and sacred liturgical celebrations; empowering disciples to exercise their baptismal vocation by living from their charisms and engaging the world with a missionary spirit.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The receptionist at Our Lady of Ransom is a welcoming individual who sees their role as relationship driven and integral to the mission of the parish. This individual will be responsible for answering the phone and greeting guests of the parish office in a way that moves beyond a transactional relationship to one of true relationship and bridge-building.

He/she will coordinate various forms of communication, perform data entry tasks, and oversee the calendar and space reservations for the parish.

He/she will provide administrative support to the Leaders of Missionary Discipleship and the various areas that they are involved in.

The receptionist is the first point of contact with many people who reach out to the parish and therefore must take ownership of fostering an environment of radical hospitality, even in the midst of challenging situations or personalities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answer phones and greet guests to the parish, ensuring that the Ministry Center is a place of radical hospitality built upon a relational, rather than transactional, model of Christian service.

• Coordinator for sacramental celebrations (e.g., wedding, baptisms, funerals, etc.), communicating critical information regarding activities and events taking place at the parish, and the smooth running of the Ministry Center.

• Oversee the parish calendar while coordinating requests for use of facilities and meeting spaces.

• Receive and organize requests for Mass intentions.

• Making use of our professionally designed template to compile, edit, and submit the weekly parish bulletin.

• Provide assistance to the Leaders of Missionary Discipleship by keeping accurate records on student enrollment and sacramental preparation and maintaining the database for all family records

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

TRAITS OF A STRONG CANDIDATE:

• Preferred charisms: Hospitality, administration, helps and/or encouragement.

• An active, practicing Roman Catholic who is faithful to the Magisterium of the Church in both word and deed.

• Willingness to present an authentic, welcoming, service-oriented attitude in dealing with staff and guests.

• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete simultaneous, unrelated projects.

• A desire to interact with the public in a service capacity.

• Comfort and knowledge of technology, software, and various means of communication, including: Microsoft office, database management, general data entry. Knowledge and prior experience with the Flocknote and eCatholic platforms a plus, as is knowledge and experience of Microsoft Publisher and/or Adobe InDesign.

• Prior experience with parish office experience a plus.

• Ability to anticipate and take initiative in responding to the needs of other staff and guests of the parish.

• Comfort in working to deescalate situations where callers or visitors may offer a less-then-warm response.

• An eye for detail-oriented work.
