Description:
Position reports to Director of Religious Education. The Coordinator supports all catechist and aide activities and services provided throughout the Religious Education Department. The Coordinator functions as a lead team member for assigned grade levels and supports catechists/teachers and aides in the classroom. The coordinator assists in supervision of all volunteers and students. The coordinator delivers lesson plans and communications. Position Responsibilities: 1. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Church 2. Provides support to the Director and staff 3. Provides Support for Catechists and Students and Families 4. Delivers high quality services 5. Establishes and maintains positive parish community relations with Catechists, Families, and Volunteers Duties: 1. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Church 2. Supports the annual program goals of the Religious Education Program 3. Assures that policies are enforced, especially in terms of attendance and participation. 4. Possesses knowledge of the principles and doctrine of the Catholic Church 4. Ensures that services comply with the acceptable Standards of the Employee Handbook and the Best Practices of the Archdiocese of Chicago 5. Provides support to the Director and staff and attends Director's staff meetings 6. Works with staff and is aware of other programs that are offered in parish. 7. Coordinates all class sessions three days per week; works closely with Catechists providing coaching and direction. 8. Assists and contributes to the First Communion Retreat 9. Supports the planned curriculum of the Religious Education Ministry 10. Attends the Religious Education Advisory Board meetings. 11. Participates in the Faith Formation Sessions for Catechists and Aides. Provides Support for Catechists and Students: 1. Provides lesson plans for grades one through five catechists 2. Updates catechists and aides via email and on class nights on lesson plans and general communications 3. Participates and assists in coordinating the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion 4. Assists in coordinating the First Communion Retreat Days 5. Meets with grade level volunteers during catechist meeting 6. Provides catechists with assessment tools to track student progress. 7. Visits classroom for observations 8. Assists catechists in class room management 9. Provides catechists with assessment tools to track student progress. Delivers high quality services: 1. Exhibits professional competence in service to staff, volunteers, and community. Practices continuous quality improvement 2. Sensitive to diverse client population 3. Accountable for quality lesson plans and communications for grades one through five. Accountable for courteous and respectful professionalism 4. Establishes and maintains positive parish community relations with Catechists, Families, and Volunteers 5. Visible to catechists, families and volunteers three days per week during two sessions each evening. Fields questions from parents and students 6. Provides opportunities for interaction between parish and religious education program. 7. Has a parish presence.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, VIRTUS trained, strong knowledge of Catholic Faith Doctrine and Word, a practical understanding of Catholic Social Teachings and fully aware of the Catholic Liturgy Office Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, PDS, and professionalism in the workplace and with the general public.
